Door Arm Rest Week 8 Challenge

Objective:-

To develop class-A surafce input provided into a product design following the OEM standards using CATIA V5 surafce workbench and to ensure that the product is manufacturable by injection molding.

Abstract:

The project report deals with the steps and procedures followed while creating a door arm rest console design using catia v5 surface workbench.

It explains method for creating class-B and class-C out of class-A suraface, tooling axis creation and final closed body creations. It also explains the draft analysis performed to check the manufacturability of the product using injection molding.

Procedure:

Class-B surface creation:

Class-B surafce was created from class-A surafce using 'extract/multiple extract' option. Class-B surface was offsetted at distance of 2.4mm thickness from the class-A surface.Fillets are applied after necessary calculations. Class-B surafce created along the Class-A surface as shown in figure. YELLOW class-B surafce, BLUE class-A surafce

Class-C surface creation:

Class-C surface was swept along the boundary of class-A using SWEEP command at an angle normal to class-A surface with respect to tooling axis. A nominal draft angle of 3 degree is applied. Class-C surface joined along with the class-A surface as shown in figure.

Closed surface creation:

Here class-A,B and C surfaces are joined to make closed surface. Merging distance is 0.003mm. Now trim class-B surface with class A and joined surfaces to obtain closed surface. we will get closed surface as shown in figure.

Then part body was inserted and closed body was created using part workbench.

Tooling axis creation:

Tooling axis is created by extracting surface and creating a point normal to surafce. By using point as reference tooling axis is created by line.

Draft analysis class-A surafce:

Draft analysis final part:

Tooling axis shoukd clear all the surafce of the part when we do draft analysis. Green colour which is above 3 degree is manufacturable using injection molding.

As the red region is not possible to eject along the mai tooling axis, Class-A surafce should be modified by the styling team.

Conclusion:

Thus manufacturable DOOR ARM REST is designed in surafec workbench
