Design of backdoor

BACK DOOR DESIGN

Objective:

Use a provided styling surface to come up with a back door design, and use the appropriate methodologies and provide the necessary reinforcements and embosses.

Software used:

                NX cad.

Introduction to backdoor:

An automobile back door is a tailgate that covers the boot or trunk of an automobile. It enables access to the luggage compartment. The hinge allows the boot lid to be raised, while devices such as springs or gas cylinders hold it up in the open position. The backdoor is an assembly of many parts such as inner panel, outer panel upper, outer panel lower, and reinforcements. Where the inner panel is attached to the outer panel by the use of mastic sealant.

Types of parts available in the back door,

  • Back door outer panel upper
  • Back door outer panel lower
  • Back door inner panel
  • Hinge reinforcements
  • Gas stay reinforcements
  • Latch and striker reinforcements
  • Wiper motor reinforcement

Draft Analysis:

Draft analysis is done to show whether the part can be easily come out from the mould or not.

Hemming:

Hemming is the process of joining the two surfaces by using the set of the rollers to bend the parent over the sub part.

Relief:

Relief is done to decrease the stress concentration along the corners and also to decrease the clumping of metal along the corners, this is done by trimming the corners by a minimum radius for the rollers to pass along smoothly.

Conclusion:

Thus, the back door was designed from the given styling surface and draft analysis is also done on the inner panel to check the manufacturing conditions.  And all the reinforcements are designed successfully.
