Design of backdoor

QUESTION. Use the provided styling surface to come up with a back door design, use appropriate design methodologies, and provide the necessary reinforcements and embosses

TAIL GATE : The tailgate is a door that gives access to the rear storage compartment of vehicles like trucks, vans, and SUVs. 2 It is made from steel panels that open and close with the help of a hinge mechanism. 3 The most common types of tailgates are drop-down, swing, split, and multi-way.

TOOL USED : CATIA V5

AIM :

To design Back door with the following requirements :

-Design outer panel with the hemming

-Develop the inner panel

-Develop all the necessary Reinforcements

-Mirror and position the hinge and striker

-provide mastic data

-Provide the required emboss definition

-Gas stay placements

-Wiper motor placement

The following guidelines should be considered while designing the hood:

  1. outer panel thickness = 0.75mm
  2. inner panel thickness =0.75mm
  3. Reinforcement thickness = 1.5mm
  4. Minimun fillet radius = 3mm+thickness
  5. No sharp edges
  6. Provide proper corner relief
  7. Emboss maximum depth = 6-7mm

GIVEN PART :

HEMMING : Hemming is a technology used in the automotive industry to join inner and outer closure panels together (hoods, doors, tailgates, etc.). It is the process of bending/folding the flange of the outer panel over the inner one. The accuracy of the operation significantly affects the appearance of the car’s outer surfaces and is therefore a critical factor in the final quality of a finished vehicle.
