Design of backdoor
Automotive Backdoor Design
AIM:
Design inner panel of backdoor with necessary emboses and reinforcements with considering of given outer panel surafce.
BackDoor
- Backdoor or Tailgate is the hinged door at th erear part of a vehicle and can be moved up or down.
- It lets us access the boot space or trunk.
Parts of Back Door Assembly
- Inner Panel
- Outer Panel
- Hinge Mounting Bracket
- Hinge Inner Reinforcement
- Latch Inner Reinforcement
- Wiper Motor Mounting Bracket
- Gas Stay moutings and reinforcemet(Heaver back doors)
Inner Pannel
Designed with consideration of given outer panel and followed with creating of embosses, mounting brackets and necessary reinforcement.
Embosses are given to make the inner panel stiffer and good endurance while crash. It is created in Y shape to allow the force to flow and get dissipated outside and hence to protect the vehicle occupants.
Reinforcements
The reinforcements are added to strengthen the parts, the reinforcements used here are gas stay reinforcement, hinge reinforcement, latch reinforcement, side reinforcement, wiper reinforcement
- These are used basically to strengthen parts locally.
- Thickness can be varied from 1 to 1.5 mm.
- Made from outer body scrap parts.
- Emboss are placed in order dissipate the impact force in order direction.
- Material are cut to reduce the weight.]
Embosses:
To reduce the weight of Hood, some materials are removed and embosses are created to give stiffness to the panel. Sheet metal embossing is a stamping process for producing raised or sunken designs or relief in sheet metal. In this project the Embosses are created to dissipate the forces towards the hinge joints during collision.
Placement of hinge and striker:
Just like the hinge and latch strikers are placed during the hood assembly, similar procedure is followed in their placement in our back door assembly. Initially hinges are placed, a functional cicrle is drawn and latch position is tentatively placed such that its face is normal to that of the circle.
OUTER PANEL:
Hemming and Relief:
Hemming is a forming operation in which the edges of the sheet are folded or folded over another part in order to achieve a tight fit. Normally hemming operations are used to connect parts together to improve the appearance of a part and to reinforce part edges.
Typical hemming defects are split or wrinkles in the flange, material overlaps in the corner areas or material roll-in. This issue can be overcome by facilitating a viable amount of corner relief in every corner of the hemmed component.
