Creating Levels, Grids, Layout and model elements for a residential unit using REVIT
CHALLENGE-2
Question no:-1.
AIM:-
What is BIM? Summarize the features of BIM and benefits of using BIM over 2D CAD tools. BIM is used for creating and managing data during the design, construction and operations process. BIM integrates multi-disciplinary data to create detailed digital representations that are managed in an open cloud platform for real-time collaboration. Using BIM gives you greater visibility, better decision-making, more sustainable options and cost savings
Features of BIM and benefits
Process:-
Building information modeling (BIM) is a process supported by various tools, technologies and contracts involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places. Building information models (BIMs) are computer files (often but not always in proprietary formats and containing proprietary data) which can be extracted, exchanged or networked to support decision-making regarding a built asset. BIM software is used by individuals, businesses and government agencies who plan, Design, Construct, operate and maintain buildings and diverse physical infrastructures, such as water, refuse, electricity, gas, communication utilities, roads, railways, bridges, ports and tunnels.
- Early detection of a collision
- Faster design and construction
- More precise planning
- Visualization at an early stage of the project
- Higher quality of performed work
- Better communication in the project
- Reducing delays and errors
- Increasing efficiency and productivity
- Competitiveness
- Easy access to information
- Project life cycle
- Resource tracking
- Time constraint
- Improvement of OSH (occupational safety and health)
Question no- 2.
AIM:-
To understand the concept of Categories, Families, Elements, and Instance in Revit. Go to Insert Tab, choose a category. Pick a family and element. Understand the instances and insert it to Revit model
Process:-
Category
It is one of the Revit element, it control the organization, visibility, graphical representation, scheduling options of family with in the project.
Family
A family is group of 2D or 3D information that serves to representation discrete building or document element of the project, actually it define parametrical graphical and documentation requirement also.
Type and Instance
Once you have entering into the family you have type option, it is separate representation in a family defined distained parametric, graphical and documentation characteristic which make its unique from other instance in the family.
Open your existing model now we need to insert family in current model,
There are two option for load family
Option 1
Step 1- Go to insert
Step 2- Go to load family
Step 3- Then select the category
Option 2
Step 1- Go to Architecture
Step 2- Drop down the component option
Step 3- Select the components
Step 4- Then ok
Inserting door by option 2
Step 1- Go to Architecture
Step 2- Select the component
Step 3- Select the load family
Step 4- Then click US
Step 5- You will see the category
Step 6- Select the door category
Step 7- Select the type of door
Step 8- Select the dimension
Step 9- Now place the door as you want
Same above step to follow for placing the windows and other components.
Result:- We understand about categories, Family, Type and Instance, also we load family with the help of option 1 & 2.

Step 1- Open Revit Software
Step 2- Go to file
Step 3- Click on Save as then project
Step 4- Select the folder where you want to save the file and then give name to the file and then click on save button.
Complete the project information under Manage tab
Step 1- Go to manage tab
Step 2- Select project information icon
Step 3- Click on Project information
Step 4- Go to edit and fill all the required project details
Step 5- Then Click Ok.
Now project information set.
Set up the maximum backups for project file to 3
Step 1- Go to file
Step 2- Click save as
Step 3- Select project then you will see option
Step 4- Click on maximum backup no
Step 5- Here you can provide maximum no up to 1 to 99
Step 6- Select the no of backup which you want
Step 7- And then click on OK.
Result:- With the help of above followed steps we have completed Setting up project, completed project information with the help of manage tab and maximum 3 backups taken.
Question no:- 4
AIM:-
Understand the concept of Levels and Grids. Follow the naming and conventions. Create the following Levels: ( Convert to metric equivalents if metric is your units)
Ground Floor @ 0’
First Floor @ 10’
Second Floor @ 20’
Roof @ 30’
Grids Transverse Grids A, B,C,D, E @ 10’ spacing
Longitudinal Grids from 1 to 10 @ 20’ spacing
Answer:-
Process:-
Creating levels (It can be created only on Elevation view)
Step 1- Go to Architecture Tab
Step 2- Select the elevation view
Step 3- Existing 2 levels already created
Step 4-You just need to rename level 1 as Ground Floor and Level 2 as First Floor
Step 5-Then click entre then select yes.
Step 6-Now we need to create 2 more levels Second floor and Roof
Step 7-Go to Architecture tab
Step 8-Then select level option
Step 9-There are to option to create levels (Line option & Pick Line Option)
Step 10-Click on Pick Line option then give offset as 10’-0’’
Step 11-Now click on Existing levels so you will see automatically Level 3 created
Step 12-Again Click on Existing levels one more time
Step 13-Levels 4 Created
Step 14-Now rename Levels 3 as Second floor and Levels 4 as Roof
Levels creation completed successfully.
Now Create the Grids (It can be created at any view)
Transvers Grid A,B,C,D,E @10’
Step 1- Go to Architecture tab
Step 2-Select Grids
Step 3-You will see 4 option to create Grids (Line,Arc,Arc,Pick line)
Step 4-Create 1st Grid with the help of Line Option
Step 5-After inserting 1st Grid choose pick line option
Step 6-Then give offset as 10’
Step 7-Then select existing Grid, you can see now new grids created
Step 8-Now you see 5 Grids created
Step 9-Rename it as A,B,C,D,E
