Conceptual design of a building with columns and shear walls
1ANS:
Comments on restraint of floor shrinkage
- It will have higher restrain to shrikage because of all corner are at fully restrain.
- It as a average restrain to shrinkage because of all corners are free but edges are restain.
- It as a possible of small non structural cracks because of no restains at corners and edges.
Comments on lateral stiffness
- Lower lateral stiffness at x& y direction because of shear walls provided at the corners
- Uniformly Higher lateral stiffness both x& y direction.
- Non uniform lateral stiffness.
Comments on Torsion with respect to vertical axis
- Corners walls are best for more resitance.
- Edge wall provided good resistance but not much more as corner shear wall.
- Irregular wall are poor at resistance.
Comments on Torsion with respect to vertical axis
- Corner wall require the reinforcement for nominal flexural moment and heavy twisting moment.
- Edge wall are very less reinforcement for nominal twisting moment.
- asymmetric shear wall require more reinforecement for heavy flexural and twisting moment.
Comments on static eccentricity
- Corners wall are not require the static eccentricity because of structual symmertic.
- Edge wall are not require the static eccentricity because of structual symmertic.
- It requires the static eccentricity because of structual unsymmertic.
Comments on system redundancy
- It has more redundancy Shear walls are placed uniform for lateral load supports on both axes.
- It has more redundancy Shear walls are placed uniform for lateral load supports on both axes.
- It has less redundancy Shear walls are placed non uniform for lateral load supports on both axes.
Comments on foundation system
- The foundation system is critical because of it has L- shaped shear wall, so it as to recommended to have peripheral box foundation.
- The foundation system is critical because of the shear walls are in line and easy to fix the foundation and easy to design.
- The foundation system is critical because of the shear walls are in line and easy to fix the foundation and critical to design.
Comments on Architectural constraints
- Walls are placed at the corners so architecturally prefer.
- Walls are placed at the face of building may or may not be architecturally prefer.
- The vertical walls are will obstruct the passage not be architecturally prefer.
2ANS:
Indirect lateral load transfer on Xand y direction.
The B3 beam connect to the B9 beam directly,so lateral load transfer is ineffective and the primary beam B9 leads to shear failure same as B4 and B7.
Eccentricity:
The longer the distance between centre of mass and the centre of stiffness and the higher in torsional moment of the building.
Weak column & Strong beam
The beam size is 25x50 but column is 25x25, the beams are stronger than column so it leads to column failure is first.
Alternative scheme
To avoid the beam to beam connection, beam to column is best , the column and beams are must be redundancy.
3ANS:
Comments on Floor plan
The comments on floor plan of building is neither uniform nor symmertic, so naturally any lateral load induced in the floor wall not have 100% influence in birectional. The torsional momemt resistance is developed.
Comments on columns
The internal columns are random and they are unable to transfer the lateral loads and not acheive the deseriable building response. so assume the columns for gravity load only.
Suggestion
- Design the corner shear wall for controlle the heavy torsional force for lateral load system.
- The corner shear wall should provided heavy on left side when compare to right side beacuse the mass proportion is more on rigth side.
- The corner shear wall are prefred for box foundation and connected to beams for load transfers.
- The internal columns are for isolated foundation and the isolated footing are connected to shear wall by using tie beams.
