Conceptual design of a building with columns and shear walls

1)

2)

  • indirect lateral load transfer in x and y directions:

the beams are not connected properly from one to another beam and which leads to ineffective manner while application of lateral loads and it leads to shear failure of primary beams.

  • eccentricity:

the longer the distance between center of mass and center of stiffness, the higher will be torsional moment of the building.as per the given plan eccentricity, the building is subjected to higher torsional moment in both x and y direction.

  • strong beam weak column possibilty:

the size of columns mentioned in this plan are 25 cm* 25 cm, but all beams have much deeper section(50 cm). inertia of beam is visually higher than column. if the column reinforcement is greater than beam reinforcement, then its ok but we don't have the details of reinforcement. it is recommended to have the bigger sized columns suitable for beams.

  • alternate scheme:

in the plan showed below, the beams are connected in straight position which might suitable to transfer lateral loads properly

3)

  • floor plan:

the floor plan is not either uniform or symmetric.so naturally any lateral load is cannot transfer in straight directions. so,special lateral load reistanting system is need to be designed for this plan

  • random internal columns:

the columns are not in straight to straight, they are unable to transfer lateral loads effeciently and can't achieve desirable building response. so we have to assume and design those columns for only gravity loads

  • floor to floor variations in partition walls and beams:

partition walls provide an important mass control and beams can play a key role in shear transfer from floor to beam. all these elements are not in order. so heavy distortion and distribution of lateral loads will happen

  • suggestion on the lateral load system and its foundation:

1. heavy torsional forces should be controlled by respective lateral load system. so"corner shear walls" are suggested.

2. the proportion of floor area is greater on the left side than right side.so, corner shear walls on the left side should be heavier than right.

3. box foundation with connected beam of corner shear walls might preferable to transfer loads.

4. internal columns shall be supported by isolated footings. these isolated footings can be connected with shear walls through tie beams
