Q.1.Answer)
a)
There are shear walls only in the corners of the plan as shown. There wont be effective bonding between the Moment resisting frame and Structural walls. And the corners should serve the purpose in the process of parking.
b)
The positions of the structural walls in this plan seems to be good and ideal when compared with the other two plans. There are shear walls in both the horizontal directions. Good bonding with the Moment resisting frame.
c)
The shear walls are present in both the direction but when the Earthquake will be in positive X-direction, the right part of the sysytem may fail as there is no presence of shear wall.
Plan b will be ideal to adopt.
Q.2.Answer)
The eccentricity in the X-direction could have been reduced by moving the columns C2,C5,C8 to bit right.
There are offsets in the beams which might have been reduced keeping the Architectural considereations in mind.
The sizes of the columns are not suffient for three story building.
Q.3.Answer)
As it is a Multi story building with basement, the structural wall should be the choice to adopt in the lateral load resisting system.

Concept on positioning of Columns
Q1.Answer) To comment on the symmetry, the plan is symmetric about both the axis (x & y). The columns are placed in the every corner and at the intersections of walls may be. In the central part, I feel that there should have been the reduction in the number of columns. In the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rows, the beams…
