Challenge 4 : Concept Modelling of Alloy Wheel

Concept Modelling of Alloy Wheel

Objective: To build the surface of an Alloy wheel

Importing the image and tracing the curves from the side view of an alloy wheel. Building surfaces of one portion of an alloy wheel and duplicating the object as per the requirements of an alloy wheel.

Methodology:

Importing the image -> tracing the curves (one part of the alloy wheel) -> surface building using tools from palette -> Duplicating the object to get required alloy wheel.

Tools:

  • Curves: Circle and CV curves, these are used to draw curves or to trace the image which in turn is required to build surfaces.
  • Object edit:
  1. Attach and Detach- These are used to detach the curves which helps to detach curves, which helps to create surfaces.
  2. Align – It helps to align the surfaces at G0, G1, G2 positions.
  3. Extend – It helps to extend the surfaces for our convenience.
  • Surfaces:
  1. Skin – It is the command used to form the skin between the curves.
  2. Rail – It is used to form surfaces by selecting generation and rail curves depending on the requirement.
  3. Square – If there are four sides to make a surface, this command is used.
  4. Freeform Blend – To form two transitional surfaces for given two inputs.
  5. Planar – To form the NURB surface.
  • Surface edit:
  1. Project – Its used to project the curve on a surface by selecting the surface and curve.
  2. Trim and Untrim – It is to trim and untrim the surface
  • Evaluate:
  1. Surface continuity check – It is to check the positional, tangent and curvature of a surface.

Conclusions:

1. Getting to know how to bulid a suface just by a side view.

2. Working on portion of a part and duplicating to get a whole required surface
