Centrifugal pump design and analysis

Centrifugal pump design and analysis

AIM:

  • To create a 3d model of the centrifugal pump.
  • To perform flow simulation with proper boundary condtitions and computational domain.
  • To get the velocity trajectories and to plot pressure ratio vs mass flow rate.

Introduction:

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a branch of fluid mechanics that uses numerical analysis and data structures to analyze and solve problems that involve fluid flows.

Solidworks flow simulation package is here used for 3d modelling and simulation.

Theory:

Centrifugal pumps are used to transport liquids through the conversion of kinetic circulating energy to hydrodynamic fluid flow. Rotating power usually comes from an engine or electric motor. They are under the active axisymmetric phase which takes on the function of turbomachinery. The fluid enters the pump impeller on or near the rotating axis and is accelerated by the impeller, flowing outward toward the diffuser chamber or volute (where it emits).

Common uses include water, sewage, agriculture, gasoline and petrochemical pumping. Centrifugal pumps are generally selected for their high flow capacity, solution compatibility, possible mixing, and their simple engineering. A centrifugal fan is often used to use a vacuum cleaner. The flexible function of the centrifugal pump is a water turbine that converts the compressive force of water into a mechanical rotation force.

Input Datas:

  • Type of flow : internal
  • Fluid used : water
  • Outlet velocity : 10m/s, 20m/s, 30m/s
  • Goals : total pressure at both inlet and outlet lids, mass flow rate at rotation chamber.

3d Model:

Pump is designed with random dimensions.

Simulation:

when outlet velocity 10m/s,

from the results obtained in simulation

inlet total pressure = 1023566.95 pa

outlet total pressure = 8199305.78 pa

Pressure ratio = 8.01

Mass flow rate = -0.00108493250369533 kg/s

Simulaion results:

when outlet velocity 20m/s,

from the results obtained in simulation

inlet total pressure = 1189123.9 pa

outlet total pressure = 11057061.5823916 pa

Pressure ratio = 9.3

Simulation results:

Simulation setup:

  • The 3d model is drawn in approximate size.
  • It was then that a new simulation project was created by the wizard.
  • First boundary wires, mesh and local mesh, screens, trajectories are made.
  • Subsequently new parametric studies were developed with different outlet velocities.
  • Then the impersonation is allowed to work.

Results Analysis:

  • Simulation is done successfully with 300 topics with or without objectives being achieved.
  • Complete input and input pressure is obtained as a result of the weight movement measurement in the rotating chamber.
  • Strong post-delivery results.
  • Pressure gauge is obtained by dividing the total outflow pressure by total pressure.
  • Sites are available with a rotation rate plus a rotation rate.

Conclusion:

  1. From the goalposts it is clear that the scams are being made until the results are found.
  2. The pressure level increases as the lid increases.

3.Reception objectives are achieved in terms of small iterations as veloctiy increases.

  1. From the trajectories it is clear that the pump design needs to be improved.
  2. As the speed increases with the rate of weight movement and increases slightly.
