Benchmarking
Benchmarking
Benchmarking involves a structured comparison between similar products, services or processes on some dimensions of performance. For example it can be used to compare the availability and delivery of features in a product and in this form often provides the basis of consumer tests and reviews.
Case:
Mr.D.S.Pughazhyendhi is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His family comprises of 5 members including his wife, 5 year boy, father and his mother. He once in a month visits his native place Madurai which is almost 500kms away from Bangalore. Also he will be using his car to commute to his office. His budget falls between 8 lakh to 10 lakh on road. Please suggest him with options so that he will buy a good car for his family.
NOTE: PUGHAZHYENDHI is fond of BIG CARS
Report:
Considering the above case of Mr. Pughazhyendhi, Factors to choose the car are as follows:
- The number of people the vehicle should be able to accommodate is five people hence comfort for long distance travel should be considered as a main aspect since Mr. Pughazhyendhi travels to Madurai once in a month.
- Mileage should be considered as an important factor as Mr. Pughazhyendhi drives to his office every day.
- The price of the car must fall in the range of 8~10 lakhs.
Based on these factors, the suggestion would be a choice of SUV Vehicle (plus he is fond of big cars) and diesel variants offer better mileage but the same would go beyond 10Lakhs which does not fall under his budget. Hence going for petrol variant as it lasts longer and better maintenance. In a crowded city like Bengaluru Automatic Gear transmission would be best suited but due to budget Constraints and fuel efficiency Manual Transmission is preferred.
Based on these requirements a detailed benchmarking is done to compare them and they are as follows:

Conclusion:
From the above detailed benchmarking I would conclude that KIA Sonet 1.2 HTK variant would be the best choice for PUGHAZHYENDHI based on following factors:
- KIA Sonet 1.2 HTK variant offers much stable performance both on the city traffic and highway with multi drive modes.
- In terms of Mileage the charts shows that KIA Sonet is the best in the segment.
- KIA Sonet is the best among the group because of its spacious Cabin Interior with more Leg room for the rear passengers and suits best for the family drive by giving best seating for the fifth passenger hence best suitable for PUGHAZHYENDHI. TATA Nexon is better spacious but in terms of long drive comfort, Sonet wins the challenge.

- KIA Sonet is a standout in its premium feel interior and exterior category and offers the maximum bootspace of 392 liters in the segment.
- It falls under PUGHAZHYENDHI's budget.
- Almost all the models has same safety features of Dual Airbags (excluding XUV300 which has 7 airbags), ABS with EBD, parking sensors, corner stability Control.
- TATA Nexon and XUV300 have 5star NCAP Rating for its safety and crash test while KIA Sonet falls under 3-star but choosing KIA Sonet for it’s over all performance.
