Benchmarking

BENCHMARKING:-

Benchmarking is a tool for assessing and comparing performance in order to achieve continuous improvement. It is part of a total quality management process, and includes the following key elements:

1.Focuses on processes rather than outcomes;

2.Encourages information sharing; and

3.Implies a willingness to change and a desire to implement best practices.

Benchmarking involves a structured comparison between similar products, services or processes on some dimensions of performance. For example, it can be used to compare the availability and delivery of features in a product and in this form often provides the basis of consumer tests and reviews.

IMPORTANCE OF BENCHMARKING:-

As a first step on the way, vehicle manufacturers must benchmark their vehicles in the competitive environment in order to understand and to strengthen or improve the potential of their vehicles. AVL newly offers a comprehensive vehicle benchmarking analysis of the most important, recently released passenger cars.

Often benchmarking is focused on the manufacturing process itself to: Improve quality. Decrease manufacturing times. Reduce Scrap and rework.

CHALLENGE:-

Mr. D.S.Pughazhyendhii is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His Family comprises five members including his wife, five-year-old boy, his father, and his mother. He visits his native place Madurai which is 500kms away from Bangalore once in a month. Also, he will be using his car to commute to his office. His budget falls between 8 to 10 lakhs on road. Please suggest to him with options so that he will buy a good car for his family.

Note: Pughazhyendhii is fond of big cars

BENCHMARKING COMPARISION BETWEEN CARS:

COMPARISION OF CARS:-

1. NISSAN MAGNITE TURBO

*.PRO'S:-

  • The Magnite looks really good…that handsome face is a head-turner
  • Sheer value-for-money pricing. Turbo-petrol with a proper AT under 10 lakhs
  • 205 mm of ground clearance is more than enough for any kind of bad roads

*.CON'S:-

  • Stiff & basic ride quality. You feel each and everything on the road
  • The Magnite is built to a cost and it does show, especially in the budget-grade cabin
  • No diesel option available on the Nissan Magnite

2. MARUTI SUZUKI VITARA BREZZA

*.PRO'S:-

  • A well-rounded Compact SUV with mature styling & mass-market appeal
  • Decent cabin space for a sub-4 meter car. Lots of storage & a powerful air-con too
  • Dual airbags & ABS are standard. The pre-facelift version received a 4-star GNCAP safety rating

*. CON'S:-

  • No diesel option! Maruti’s BS6 1.5L diesel engine is still some time away
  • 4-speed Automatic gearbox feels old & outdated. No manual mode or paddle shifters either
  • Ordinary interior quality and design

3. KIA SONET HTE 1.2

*.PRO'S:-

  • A mini-Seltos in almost every way! Same formula, in a smaller package
  • Excellent spread of powertrains including a fast & enjoyable turbo-petrol
  • Top safety package includes 6 airbags, ESP, HSA, TPMS etc.

*. CON'S:-

  • The cabin of the Kia Sonet is a bit cramped, especially at the rear. In fact, we would say it is a 4-seater SUV
  • The tasty 1.0L turbo-petrol doesn’t come with a manual gearbox. Venue has that option
  • While the entry-level variants of the Sonet are aggressively priced, the top-end GT-Line trims are very expensive

4. TATA NEXON

*.PRO'S:-

  • The overall build quality of the car is superb and the car definitely feels extremely solid
  • The 1.5-L diesel engine is not just powerful and refined but is extremely reliable in the long run as well
  • 5-star NCAP safety rating & a solid build, unlike many of its flimsy competitors

*. CON'S:-

  • Jiggly low speed ride; bumps are felt in the city (unlike other Tata cars)
  • Concerns over long-term reliability, more so of the freshly developed engines
  • Tata's inconsistent after-sales experience is far from that of Maruti & Hyundai

5. HYUNDAI VENUE

*. PRO'S:-

  • There is not a single percent of doubt that the Venue design will not appeal to the buyers
  • Balanced Road manners. Very easy to drive too
  • Top safety equipment includes 6 airbags

*. CON'S:-

  • Yes, even though the Venue is a compact SUV, it feels like a small hatchback at the rear. You just cannot seat 3 people comfortably at the rear for longer journeys. There is a lack of under-thigh support and legroom for rear passengers which makes it a complicated choice when compared with Tata Nexon or Maruti Brezza.

CONCLUSION:-

I Would like to suggest TATA NEXON to Mr. D.S.Pughazhyendhii and his family, due to TATA NEXON is a best car, i.e., which has a high safety rating in this segment and value for money with a best features.
