BENCHMARKING IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY.
Benchmarking involves a structured comparison between similar products,
services or processes on some dimensions of performance. For example it can be
used to compare the availability and delivery of features in a product and in this
form often provides the basis of consumer tests and reviews. These look at
products and services and provide recommendations based on which is best or
some form of ranking amongst competitors.
It is particularly useful when comparing not only performance but also practice –
in other words what do the different organizations do to enable that
performance to be delivered? And applied in this way it is a powerful tool in
process innovation sin e studying how the ‘best’ achieve their performance can
provide powerful clues for changing the way processes operate.

OBSERVATION:

We observe that Mr.D.S. Pughazhyendi needs a family car for daily commutes to work and long drives to his native place which is 500kms away from his residence in Bangalore. Bangalore is a crowded city with having a lot of traffic jams and people tend to spend a lot of time in their cars during these jams. as a result, Fuel Efficiency and Heat Dissipation play a major role as the car tends to run in idle conditions for a long time and also the parking crisis of Bangalore has to be considered Hence. factors like Safety, Structural Rigidity, Engine Performance, Handling e.t.c have to be considered as Mr.Pughazhyendi Travels frequently on the Highways. We can consider these factors as "Technical Specifications" . factors like Air Conditioning, Seating Comfort, e.t.c come under the "Features" of the car. As an Engineering, we need to guide them through the Technical Specifications of the car according to their usage and lifestyle. The features and creature comforts can be customized by them according to their budget and personal preferences.

By looking at Mr.D.S. Pughazhyendi's portfolio, we understand that he is a family man and needs a car to suit his lifestyle in a difined budget. as a Design Engineering, we need to provide Mr.D.S. Pughazhyendi with the best car that his money can buy from both performance and budgets aspects.

We have shortlished 4 cars according to his choice of "Big cars" and a budget of 10 lakhs .

I would suggest Mr.D.S. Pughazhyendi to go for the "TATA NEXON (XM)".

The "TATA NEXON(XM)" is the better option, though it is slight above the "NISSAN MAGNITE (TURBO XV DT)" in terms of pricing but provides better value for money than the other cars on our list. comparing it to the least priced car on our list, the NEXON(XM) costs "Rs.695" more than the "MAGNITE TURBO", for which we get a Bigger engine, More Brake HorsePower, More Torque, a 6 speed manual transmission, and mainly a better Suspension when compared with the Nissan Magnite. driver aids like Hill assist is also available. safety features like ABS,2 Air-bags,Hill Assist,Roll-over mitigation, Electronic brake pre-fill, Brake disc wiping are to be considered as Mr.D.S. Pughazhyendi's plans on travelling often. This car will be perfect for Mr.D.S. Pughazhyendi and his family as car is comfortable to be seated in for long drives as the suspension is better when compared to the Nissan Magnite. considering that Mr.D.S. Pughazhyendi will be driving the car, the the engine performance is suitable for highway drives, as the engine and suspension performance of the Nissan Magnite can be tiring for the driver and also the passengers also.Coming to the looks of the car, the NEXON has a Beastly presence when comapred to the other cars on our list and doesn't fail to make and imression. according to me,the car perfectly fits Mr.D.S. Pughazhyendi's portfolio and I hope that Mr.D.S. Pughazhyendi and his family will be encoutering many new endevours and making memories in their new car.
