Benchmarking
problem statement
Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His Family comprises five members including his wife, five-year-old boy, his father, and his mother. He visits his native place Madurai which is 500kms away from Bangalore once in a month. Also, he will be using his car to commute to his office. His budget falls between 8 to 10 lakhs on road. Please suggest to him with options so that he will buy a good car for his family.
Note: Pughazhyendhii is fond of big cars
To suggest the perfect car to Mr.D.S. Pughazhyendhil their ia an industry level procedure called benchmarking.
What is Benchmarking?
Benchmarking marking is a procedure of comparing the standards of two_vehicles in Vechicle development processes(VDP).It is a part of in predesign and development phase,Now the benchmarking is of two types.
- Benchmarking 1
- Benchmarking 2
- Benchmarking 1 is like product level comparison like dimensions, specifications and features ,price range, crash withstand with their competators product as well as with their parent product also.
- Benchmarking 2 is like component level comparison here it involves study each and every components and features that introduced in competators vehicle and withdrawn the resons why they intoduced and their also comparison/study in such a way like if we have any ideas in terms of weight reduction, safety or adding any new features we have to think of why our competators are not introduced in their product, this is how the benmarcking has been done in industries
Now Iam going to do benchmark of some products to suggest Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii, which to buy and iam going to choose some suv's and sedan's i will suggest one suv and one sedan as he fond of big cars.
My main_parameters:-
- Saftey
- hadelling
- Maintainance

Here In the above Table all are under suv segment only, compact suv's by names TATA NEXON,VITARA BREZZA,MAHINDRA XUV300,HYUNDAI VENUE S PLUS all of them are base varients in their segments except HYUNDAI VENUE S PLUS and all are petrol varients only.
Let's gone trough purpose and needs of mr Pughazhyendhii
Firstly I consider NCAP and ANCAP rank,Why because being an engineer I will always choose the saftey first, and mr Pughazhyendhii also uses his car on regular basis and here i have the options also,So i will drop vitara brezza and kia sonat,so I have three cars remaining. As their no that much of diffderence between the mileages and economy wise also their no much difference all were lies under budget only.Let's some drive assistant features which provides comfort and safe driving like brake assist,EDB,Traction control,Electronic stability contol, steering type here most of the are provided by tata nexon only except electric steering,so I choose to drop mahindra XUV300 and Hyundai_venue s PLus yes the nacp rating for child occupant protection comparitvely less with repect to Mahindra and hyundai even tata nexon has its own plus points like lumber seat support, spacious leg_room which helps a lot to his elder parents while traving to his village and Independent suspension it helps very in handling the vehicle and tata nexon produces high power and torque at lower rpm which helps a lot in city to move rapidly and at hill_stations also.

Here also i consider saftefy first and here i didn't find any saftefy ratings for skoda and swift but i can assume depending upon saftey features provided by each individual as 3* and 3* in sedan segment every company are providing same feartures in this price segment so saftey wise i found that tata is in first place and maintainance also all near to equal I suggesting tata_tigor by considering its saftey rating and independent suspension means better handiling.TATA TIGOR is the best choice.
conclusion:-In between Tata Tigor and Nexon both are having independendent suspension mileage wise tigor is a far better option why beacause 3km is higher for daily commuters it saves a lot and maintainance wise also sedan is a far better than a suv but in case of nexon it is not both maintainance are seems to very similar Here I will suggest TATA NEXON.
