Benchmarking

Aim: To prepare a report explaining what is benchmarking, compare at least 4 vehicles and provide a proper conclusion for the report, suggesting a suitable vehicle among the comparison made.

What is benchmarking?

Benchmarking 1 & 2 in the automobile industry involves a structured comparison between similar products, services or process on same dimensions of performance.

Benchmarking process can operate at several levels

  1. Between similar processes in the same factory or service branch
  2. Between different factories or services branches
  3. Between different competing organizations
  4. Between different sectors using the same process

Types of benchmarking:

  1. Internal benchmarking: If other teams or organizations within your company have established best practices in processes similar to yours, internal benchmarking involves analyzing what they are doing so you can find areas where you can improve and be more efficient.
  2. Competitive benchmarking: his type of benchmarking is a comparison of products, services, processes, and methods of your direct competitors. This type gives you insight into your position within your industry and what you may need to do to increase productivity.
  3. Strategic benchmarking: Use this type of benchmarking when you need to look beyond your own industry to identify world-class performance and best practices so you can look for ways to adapt their methods to your procedures and processes.

8 steps in the benchmarking process

  1. Select a subject to benchmark.
  2. Decide which organizations or companies you want to benchmark.
  3. Document your current processes.
  4. Collect and analyze data.
  5. Measure your performance against the data you’ve collected.
  6. Create a plan.
  7. Implement the changes.
  8. Repeat the process.

This is all about the Bench marking and it's process of approaching methods.
