Benchmarking

BENCHMARKING:

• Benchmarking is the technical word for Comparison.
• Benchmarking is the process of comparing your product with what is already available in the market, with the aim of identifying the strengths of your competitors and integrating them into your own product. This involves analyzing and adapting the best practices and strategies of other companies in your industry to improve your own product's performance and competitiveness.

CASE STUDY

The given inputs for conducting the benchmarking are as follows:

1. The On-Road price for Bangalore
2. Seating capacity of at least 5 individuals
3. Transmission system
4. Having a full-tank range of atleast 500kms preferably with good mileage
5. Preference of big cars which is traversible in a crowded city
6. Features provided in the vehicle

Hereforth is the list of the cars to be benchmarked based on the aforementioned requirements:

• Tata Nexon XE:

• Maruti Brezza Lxi

• Tata Punch Camo Adventure AMT

• Hyundai Venue E

• Maruti Baleno Delta AMT

• Hyundai Sportz DT

Based on the requirements, six 5-seaters are identified for the benchmarking study

Since the vehicle will mostly be used for the purpose of commutation (that too, in a highly crowded city), two factors need to be addressed:

1. Better Mileage
2. Ease of driving - defined primarily by the transmission system

Of the presented alternatives, two have AMT whilst the rest have manual transmission, of which AMT makes it significantly easier for an individual to drive a car, especially so in the case of a newbie. This will be very well appreciated in places where lots of braking has to applied (as in our case, a crowded city).

In terms of mileage, of all the alternatives, the highest belongs to Baleno Delta AMT corresponding to 22.94 kmpl (ARAI)

Since, the budget range lies between 8 & 10 lakhs as well as the preference for a big car being added to the consideration, the above alternatives are suggested based on their dimensions more or less lying relatively closer to each other.

All the alternatives have the provison of A/C system whilst two of them don't have rear power windows. Given then current scenario as well as the budget range, convenience is preferable over cost saving, hence, rear power windows are taken into consideration.

Of all the alternatives, Maruti Baleno Delta AMT has all the mentioned prerequisites, preferences, the highest mileage and isn't the highest priced alternative as well.

Hence, Maruti Baleno Delta AMT will be the recommended vehicle for Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii.
