BENCHMARKING

Benchmarking is the process of comparison of similar products on some dimensions of performance. For an Automotive sector it has Benchmarking 1 and Benchmarking 2 in product design and development.

* Benchmarking 1 - To analyse the product/features by compare with competetior and study the Market.

* Benchmarking 2 - To analyse an individual part in the product. For example - Material, Metal Thickenss, Number of parts and Total Weight.

CASE

Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His Family comprises five members including his wife, five-year-old boy, his father, and his mother. He visits his native place Madurai which is 500kms away from Bangalore once in a month. Also, he will be using his car to commute to his office. His budget falls between 8 to 10 lakhs on road. Please suggest to him with options so that he will buy a good car for his family.

Pughazhyendhii is fond of big cars.

REPORT

The above case of Mr. Pughazhyendhii leads to following filters. They are

  • The number of passenger is five including a child and hence the vehicle should be a five seater vehicle with proper space.
  • He uses his car for Daily office and a monthly trip to his native .This would give approximately 2500km/month and 30000km/year.
  • The budget is from 8-10 Lakhs and he is also fond of big cars.
  • Based on these above factors, I would recommend compact sedan type car.
  • By considering the long distance travel, Everyone recommend the diesel variant. But in this scenario we cant go for diesel due to budget, So
  • In a crowded city like Bengaluru Automatic Gear transmission would be best suited but due to budget constraints and fuel efficiency Manual Transmission is preferred

Based on these requirements a detailed benchmarking is done to compare the specifications, advantages and other considerable parameters

COMPARISION

  • From the above table we understand the specification for each vehicle. More specification for these four vehicles to be same, only small difference between them.
  • I would prefer the automatic transmission because city traffic is more in banglore. so manual transmission of 2 cars (Amaze and Aura) to be eliminated.
  • Mileage is very important for vehicles because fuel price is increasing day by day. when compare both Dzire and Tigor vehicle, I would prefer Dzire for mileage.
  • TATA Tigor is prefered for its price and boot space only. Even suspension system for Dzire is low cost, light weight and user friendly. In Tigor Suspension system is more complex, high weight and also high maintenance.

  • Electronic stability program with Hill-hold.
  • Dual Air bags.
  • Anti-lock braking system.

CONCLUSION

Thus a detailed benchmarking is done and car is proposed based on the reports for this case.
