Benchmarking:

Benchmarking is defined as the process of measuring products, services, and processes against those of organizations known to be leaders in one or more aspects of their operations.

According to Automobile industry benchmarking is one of the pre development process 

 in predeveloping process benchmarking is playing vital role :

In the benchmarking process we have to compare the products, services and processes of siimilar ones.

ex : For example take Two cars compare each of their specifications , materials used , weights ,operations etc...to make the design of the product with similar operations.

from the above table one can see all the specifications those which are neccessary for taking the best designs from each car in accordance to the budget.
