Benchmarking

Benchmark with presently available cars in the market for the following case.

Q ] Mr D.S. Pughazhyendhii is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His Family comprises five members including his wife, a five-year-old boy, his father, and his mother. He visits his native place Madurai which is 500kms away from Bangalore once a month. Also, he will be using his car to commute to his office. His budget falls between 8 to 10 lakhs on road. Please suggest to him options so that he will buy a good car for his family.

Ans ] In a Study from the above Case, He visits his native place Madurai which is 500kms away from Bangalore once in a month. Monthly kilometre including Madurai Return and Office in Bangalore. For the cost of Vehicle lam assuming on-road price to be considered. Also assuming the Pughazhyendhii comes from a middle-class family, so he will be using this car for 6 to 8 Years. This car Kms running every month and will use the car for 6 to 8 years. My suggestion to him to buy a Diesel car will be more benefits.

Benchmarking:-

Benchmarking is the competitive edge that allows organizations to adapt, grow, and thrive through change.
Benchmarking is the process of measuring key business metrics and practices and comparing them—within
business areas or against a competitor, industry peers, or other companies around the world—to understand how and where the organization needs to change to improve performance.
Benchmarking is not an immediate solution to a problem.

Processes of Benchmarking as shown a following:-

1] Select the process to Benchmark

2] Determine who you want to Benchmark against
3] Document your current process
4] Collect and Analyze Data
5] Create a Plan
6] Implement Changes

There are four main types of benchmarking: internal, external, performance, and practice.

1. Performance benchmarking:-
It involves gathering and comparing quantitative data (i.e., measures or key performance indicators). Performance
benchmarking is usually the first step organizations take to identify performance gaps.

2. Practice benchmarking:-
It involves gathering and comparing qualitative information about how an activity is conducted through people,
processes, and technology.

3. Internal benchmarking:-
It compares metrics (performance benchmarking) and/or practices (practice benchmarking) from different units,
product lines, departments, programs, geographies, etc., within the organisation.

4. External benchmarking:-
It compares one organisation's metrics and/or practices to one or many others.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Benchmarking:-

Advantages:-
1] Competitive Analysis
2] Monitor Performance
3] Continuous Improvement
4] Improves Efficiency
5] Encourages Ownership

Disadvantages:-
1] High Cost
2] Incorrect Comparison
