Assignment 7
Explore tutorial number 9 and write a detailed report:
The tutorial no. 9 shows the conversion of a detailed full design model into an FRM model in 8 basical steps. So in this model, a 4-cylinders TGDI engine with a turbocharger wastegate controller and a semi-predictive intercooler is used. The main target of converting a model into an FRM model is to minimize the solving time in Real-time.
In step no. 1, the detailed model is shown with the model description.
Some of the principal features of this model are the following:
- the CompressorMapParam template is used to generate a fully extrapolated compressor map from a single design point using a set of physically-based parametric equations;
- the IntercoolerEff compound is used to calculate the intercooler outlet temperature based on input mass flow against effectiveness data. The intercooler outlet temperature is then setted by actuating the wall temperature and increasing the intercooler pipe heat transfer multiplier;
- Pipe diameters were modified to be realistic for a turbo intake system. The pre-compressor pipes have a slightly larger diameters than the post-compressor pipes (due to the increased density after the compressor;
-With the increased post-compressor boost temperatures, the WallTempSolver was used (as opposed to imposing a fixed wall temperature) to calculate the pipe wall temperatures and more accurately model pipe heat transfer;
- A basic TC exhaust manifold is used;
- WallTempSolver with stainless steel material properties (common used for high exh. temp for SI applications) is used in the exhaust layout.
In step no. 2, the FRM converter is used and the after-treatment system is combined into the FlowSplitGeneral template.
In step no. 3, the intake manifold is combined into a single FlowSplitGeneral Template which is an FRM model.
In step no. 4, the output from the compressor to the intake runner is converted into FRM
In step no.5, from environment input to throttle valve input is converted in FRM.
In step no.6, from exhaust valve to turbine input is converted into FRM.
In steps 7-8, RLT creater RT-1 is done in the place of MonitorSignal.
So now the model is fully converted into the FRM and ready for the running.
Build FRM Model for following configuration using FRM builder approach:
Requirements:
- Bore 102 mm stroke 115 mm CR 17
- No of cylinder 6
- CI engine
- Twin Scroll Turbine
- GT Controller
First of all, we can select the tool option on the status bar and after clicking on the FRM builder.
Step no.1: select the architecture type as CI
Step no.2: fill the cylinder geometry as for the question.
Step no.3: select the turbo's type as twin scroll.
Step no.4: select the engine like as a 6-cylinders.
Step no.5: select the type of control logic as GT-Suite controller.
Step no.6: finish the model, so this is the final step of the FRM building logic.
