Assignment 11

Ans:

Step 1: Select the single cyl DI tutorial

Step 2: Set the discretization length as a parameter

Case Setup

In this case there are two cases, one with discr. length of 40 mm and other of 0.1 mm.

Post-Processing:

It's possible to see that the difference is very slightly.

Brake Torque Case 1: 96.2 Nm

Brake Torque Case 2: 95.9 Nm

Deviation: 0.3 Nm

BSFC Case 1: 238.2 g/kW*h

BSFC Case 2: 238.9 g/kW*h

Deviation: 0.7 g/kW*h

Deviation of the Maximum Pressure in-cylinder: 1.93 bar

From the above picture it's possible to detect a big gap with regard to the Entire Run Average and Final RLT Interval. So the discretization length of 0.1 mm is unnecessary, instead the value of 40 mm seems appropriate.

Explore Tutorial ----> Ans:

First of all the file .stl is imported to the GEM 3D

with the imported model as below:

In the above picture it's shown the intake manifold without discretization.

For the next task, we'll separate the design according to the curve. So in this step all part will'be discretized which have sudden changes in dimensions.

In the above picture, the different colours show the different parts in GEM3D.

So using the 3 point cutting plane tool, different sections are formed.

After using the cutting plane:

Orifice Connection:

Forward Discharge Coefficient with a value of 0.9

Now entrance part:

Final Section:

Gap between pipes filled:

Conversion to 1-D model with the total discretization:

Discr. Length of 40 mm

Final discretized model in 1-D:

End.
