Assignment 2-RADIOSS Engine File Editing & 3D Meshing Challenge

1. Check the material properties of the rail component and calculate the speed of sound in steel rail= 5188.75 m/sec

2. The length of the rail is about 1000 mm.calculate the time takes for a shock wave to travel from one end of the rail to the other = 0.19275 sec.

3. Time for sound to travel length of rail= 0.19275 sec.

4. Termination time = 0.19275 sec.

7. Start from the base.

Create 2D mesh on the base and use Offset element command to create 3d mesh on the base.

Select the 2d elements by shift select and the 2 along surfaces to create 3d mesh on the base part.

For the curve section use spin command to spin elements along the curvature.

Select the elements on the base surface to be spinned.

Select the circle cetre about which the elements need to be spinned. Also define spin angle. 90 degree in this case.

For creating mesh on the straight part use linear solid command.

Use find faces command to select the elements on the face of the curved part and give source elements and destination elements.

Keep in mind number of source and destination elemetns should be equal. Also orientation of the elements should be same on both.

For creating mesh on the boss use solid map command.

Select the elements which need to be mapped and project the nodes on the surface upto which we need to solid map elements.
