Assignment 2
Objective:
- To understand the terminology of Stater and Engine files.
- By understanding Terms and their location, to solve the time and frequency based sound wave traveling problem.
Data acquired from Stater file ‘FIRST_RUN_0000’ :
E = 210000, Rho = 0.0078.
Speed of sound in steel rail C = SQRT (E/Rho)
= SQRT(2100/0.0078) = 5188.75 mm/ms.
The length of the rail (L) = 1000 mm.
Time is taken by a shock wave to travel from one end of the rail to the other (T)
= L/C
= 1000 / 5188.75 = 0.19 ms.
To get the 20 animation steps required frequency = T/20 = 0.19/20 = 0.0095.
Objective :
To learn Tetra mesh generation by opting various techniques such as :
- First 2D surface meshing and then making Tetra mesh out of it.
- Generating Tetra Volume mesh.
Procedure:
Object 1: Hub
Initially did 2D surface meshing by selecting all Tria elements by considering solver’s simplicity.
Selected element size equals to 10mm. So the fine mesh got created.
Under 3D section selected TetraMesh option. Before that set the tetra mesh parameters such as
Tet Collapse = 0.15 & press for meshing.
Object 2: Cover
Initially went for 3D Volume Tetra mesh by selecting an element size of 5 mm and the above tetra mesh parameters. But the meshing found was not satisfactory.
So by deleting the mesh went by Utility command such as :
View- Browser- Hypermesh- Utility- Geometry- Create quick tetra- element size 5- Tria angle 20.
By selecting the surface went for Proceed and generated the mesh.
Result:
Beautiful Tetramesh gets created. Some elements got failed to show Skewness and min size error.
So by focusing on that section auto meshing the respective region got rid of that problem.
Objective:
To learn Tetra & Hexa mesh generation by opting various techniques such as :
- 2D surface meshing with 3D element offsetting.
- 3D spinning Hexa Mesh
- Linear solid meshing for two parallel pseudo identical surfaces
- Solid mapping for Boss section.
Procedure:
Base surface selected for 2D auto meshing and did Element offset under 3D section by selecting 10mm element size.
For Arm curve, Opted Spin 3D meshing option but for that Curve, the centre was required so that created and by selecting centre and three curve nodes mesh generated.
For Arm straight first outer surface got extracted from the previous one. On the other side, auto mesh generated considering the same no of elements on this surface as extracted one. By aligning the successive nodes on both the surface 3dD mesh generated.
For the Boss section, Solid map method opted. Initially created the 2D mesh on the circular surface and by selecting multiple support patterns such as surface profile, Nodes, Lines it is extruded up to the next.
Result :
Beautiful Tetramesh gets created. Some elements got failed to show Skewness and min size error.
So by focusing on that section auto meshing the respective region got rid of that problem.
