Assignment 2
OBJECTIVE 1
To answer the given questions.
1. Check the material properties of the rail component and calculate the speed of sound in steel rail

2.The length of the rail is about 1000 mm.calculate the time takes for a shock wave to travel from one end of the rail to the other.

4.Edit the engine file so that the stress wave can be monitored, moving from one end of the rail to the other during impact -this will require a termination time equal to the time it takes for the sound to travel the length of the rail(set on/RUN card)
5.Set the frequency of animation output to a time that will give 20 animation steps(/ANIM/DT)
6.Change /print -10

OBJECTIVE 2
TO 3D MESH THE GIVEN COMPONENTS
1. TO TETRA MESH THE GIVEN COMPONENT
Steps involved in Tetra Meshing
1. Import the model
Go to file> import>Geometry.

Fig: Given component
2. Go to Utility model browser>Geom/Mesh>Quick Tetramesh>give necessary parameters>mesh.

Fig: Tetra mesh
2. To Hexa mesh the given component
1.Import the model
Go to file> import>Geometry.

Fig: Given Model
2.First we mesh the component on surface then we use solid map, drag, spin, etc to generate hexa elements in the model.
- To generate hexa elements in base
Goto 2D>automesh>Select element type as quad and select element size>select the surface>mesh.
Goto 3D>Solid map>Select dest geom, elems to grag and reference line>mesh.

- For Arm curve
Goto Spin>select the 2D elems>Give angle and no. of columns of elems on spin and vector direction>spin.

- For Arm straight
Goto 2D>automesh>mesh the surface connected to hub with quad elements with no. of rows and columns of elements equal to arm curve.
Goto tools>faces>select the elements of arm curve>faces.
Goto 3D>linear solid>Select the elements on arm curve connected to arm straight and elements on other side>select alignments>solids.

- For Hub
Goto 2D>automesh>Select element type as quad and select element size>select the top surface>mesh.
Goto 3D>Solid map>Select dest geom, elems to grag and reference line>mesh.

Final Model:

LEARNING OUTCOME:
- Tetra Meshing and Hexa Meshing
CONCLUSION: In this challenge we have learned all the steps involved in tetra meshing and hexa meshing and did the same for given components.
