Assignment 1-2D Meshing Challenge
PROCEDURE
Part 1:
. IMPORT:
. given model is imported to hyperworks using import model option.

. part - 1 Topo View:
. the given model is viwed in topo model to view the surface edges.

Geometriry cleanup of part 1:
. Since the topo model view shows the surface irregularities in the imported model, it should be cleared before the mid surface of the model is obtained.
. the geometric cleanup of the imported model is done using the following tools:
. For missing surfaces, the filler surf option under quick edit tab is used
. For disconnected edges, the toggle edge option under the quickk edit tab is used.

EXTRACTION OF MID_SURFACE:
. The next step is to extract the mid-surface. the mid surface is available in the geometry panel.
. After opening the mid surface tool, the surface should be selected and the option used to extract the mid-surface is
offset+planes+sweeps.and the mid-surface panel
The extracted mid - surface

. The next step is to find out any surface fillet will lead to minimum element size error and defeature those fillets through the defeature option.

. Then, some holes are noticed with a minute diameter. the radius can be founded by the distace option(keyboard short-cut is F4). in that, the distance with three nodes on that free edges, will show the radius of that hole. with the help of this radius the diameter can be known.
NOTE - The holes with a diameter less than 5mm can be ignored.

GENERATING MESH:
. After geometry clean up, the next step is to generate the mesh. before generating the mesh , there are some prerequisites. they are filling up the criteria editor

. The meshing is done by using auto mesh tool under the 2 - D tab with element size as 5 and element types size as
. The meshing of each component is done surface wise from one small surface

. Similarly, meshing is progressed into adjached surface to mesh the whole model.

QUALITY CHECK:
. The meshed element of all component are checked using the quality index tool.
. The element violating the specified quality criteria are marked yellow and red.
. Cleanup tool like element optimize and place node within the quality index is used to optimize the violating element.
. For element that are not optimized to within the criteria range with the quality index tool, the elem cleanup tool is used.
. In situation where quality index and elem cleanup tools failed to rectify the violating elements, the auto mesh tool is used to remesh the non - optimized elements.
. The element of all components are checked if any more violating elements are present.
. If present, the above steps are repeated untile all elements fall under the given quality criteria.

. The next step is to check the free-edges the shortcut for that is shift+f3 (edges) by entering into the edges panel, selecting the component, and click on ''find edges'' the free edges are obtained.

. The next step is to check for ''normals''. the normals option is available in the ''tool'' panel. after entering into the normal option, all element are selected. in order to view the noramle for every element.

ASSIGNING THICKNESS:-
. After genertaing the mesh, the next step is to assign the thickness. for assigning thickness, a property needs to create. the create propert can be renamed for easy understanding appearing in the tab bar.
. After creating a propert, by clicking on it the parameter with respect to that property are shown. by assigning the value to be 0.9mm

. The next step is to assign the property to the mid - surface component, where the elements are present. assigning can be done by right - clicking on the component to which the thickness should be assigned, in that there will be an assigned option. by clicking on it a dialog box. in that the property is chosen and applied.
. Therefor, the final component after assigning the thickness,

PART 2:-
. IMPORT
. Given model is imported to hyperwork using import model option

. part [- 2 topo view:
. the given model is viewed in topo mode to view the surface edges.

. geometry cleanup of part 2:
. the model part 2 when viwed under topo mode does not have nay sort of geometrical error hence no geomatry correctionerror hence no geometry correction was required.
MID - SURFACING:-
. The mid - surface of the colse soild is extract using the surface - edit tool under the geometry tab.
. the mid surface is used to obatin the mid - surface with an offset option.
. midsurface generated is stored under an initial collector. we need to move to another component.
. The extracted mid - surface is shown below placed exactely in the middle of the given model

GEOMETRY CLEAN - UP:
. There are some region that have which leads to the violation of quality criteria this can be overcome by replacing those ponits replacement option availabe in the quick edit panel
. The holes with a diameter less than 5mm can be ignored.

GENERATING THE MESH:-
. In order to mesh the component faster only some surface have meshed. for the remaining surafce, the element are reflected.

. The reflect option is available in the ''tool'' panel
. The element to be reflected are duplicated, the direction to which the element should be reflected (Y-axis) & the base point is selected at the center after reflecting the element on one side, the component

. And the quality criteria are verified. the elements failing are shown as zero.

. Even through the component is meshed fully by using reflect option, there will be a gap and no connectivity between the nodes. this can be noticed by the option ''find edges'' in that the element are to be selected and clicking on preview equivalence.
. The next step is to verify tha free edges is is also verify by the ''find edges'' option. the obtaine free edges
. The next step is to check for normals. the normals are checked in the same way as done for component

ASSIGNING THICKNESS:-
. The next step is to assign the thickness for assigning the thickness, a property is create & the thickness value with respect to the parent geometry is entered.

PART 3:-
. IMPORT
. Given model is imported to hyperworks using import model option.

. part - 3 topo
. the given model is viwed in topo model to view the surface edges.

. geometry cleanup of part 3:
. the model part 3 when viewed under topo mode does not have any sort of geometric error hance no geometry correction was required.
MID-SURFACE
. the mid- surafce of the close solid id extracted using the surface - edit tool under the geometry tab.
. the mid-surface is used to obtain the mid-surface with an offest option.
. midsurface genertaed is stroed under an initial collection we need to move to another component
. the extraced mid- surface is shown below extctly in the middel of the given model

. the next step is to take a midline in between two surface with trim with surface / plane on both sides

GENERATING MESH:-
. the next step is to generate the mesh. in order to mesh faster with proper mesh flow only some surface have meshed.

. the mesh near the holes is to be rotated. in order to obtain the proper mesh flow.

QUALITY CHECK:-
. the meshed element of all component are cheacked using the quality index tool.
. the element violating the specified quality criteria are marked yellow and red.
. cleanup tools like element optimize and place node within the quality index is used to optimize the violating elements,
. for element that are not optimize to within the crieria range with the quality index tool, the elem cleanup tool is used.
in the situation where quality index and elem clenup tools fails the auto mesh tool is used to remesh the non optimized elements.
. the element of all components are checked if any more violating element are present.
. if present, the above step are repeated unitl all emenet fall under the given quality criteria.

. the next step is to check for free edges.

. Then, it' s time to check for the normals, the normals for the given component with the color display

ASSIGNING THICKNESS:-
. the next step is to assign the thickness. this is done by creating a property and assigning the thickness value to it.

. finally, after assigning the thickness of the component.

CONCLUSION
. Extracted the mid surface and perforemed the geomerty clean-up on the given components.
. generated a 2D mesh on the given components by following the element quality criteria.
. finally, assign the thickness for the given components.
.
