2-D MESHING

cleaning up the geometry.

Firstly we clean the given model. we change the view to mixed and check for red and yellow lines. If there are any red or yellow lines, we have to clear them. For this we make use of quick edit to toggle the edges or use delete option to delete any extra surfaces. Once the geometry cleanup is done we go to create the mid surface.

Creating mid surface:

For creating mid surface we go to the midsurface option under geometry,select all surfaces of the model and generate a mid surface. Once the mid surface is created we do the topology editing. we supress the lines and circle which are not needed using the filler surface and toggle edge option under the quick edit pannel. once this is done, our model is ready for meshing.

Generating a 2D mesh:

For this we go to the 2D option and select the automesh option. now we select the surface that we need to mesh and enter the target value and generate the mesh. Now, if the mesh is uneven, we have to refine the mesh, for this we can automesh the generated mesh elements, or we can make use of rebuild mesh option. we can also go to quality index and try to drag few of the trias out of the mesh. so here,we basically try to remove the maximum number of trias possible. once this is done we smooth the entire mesh with required number of iteration. ( here i have used 10 iteration).

Reflecting the mesh:

If we have two similar surfaces, in order to save our time and work, we can reflect or project the mesh created on one side of the surface using the reflect option under the tools tab.

For this we have to first select all the elements of the surface, and then we select the base point for the reflection, now we duplicate the selected elements from the current model and reflect them.

Finally check if there are any trias that can be removed by remeshing or by combining them using the combine option. Once the mesh flow looks smooth and neat, we can go to the file option and save the model.
