Assembly of Yacht

YACHT MODELLING

Aim: To model Yacht in Solid works software with available blue prints.

Objective: The objective of this project is to learn the concept of reverse engineering & model the Yacht in the solid works and find out how intricate shapes can be modelled easily in CAD modelling software.

Abstract: Reverse engineering is one of the most powerful techniques applied for most of the sectors such as Automobiles, Aero space industries, Manufacturing industries & R&D to know the existing designs and the possible modifications applied for further development of the product.

The entire modelling process is divided in to Six Stages

  1. Blue Print Setup & Creating Planes.
  2. Modelling of Hull Part
  3. Modelling of Super Structure
  4. Modelling of Radar Mast
  5. Modelling of front, middle & Rear Seats.
  6. Assembling the individual parts.

Stage 1:

Setting up Blue Prints

Step 1: Select a Plane & select a 2d drawing option & go to Tools- Sketch tool-Sketch Picture.

Step 2: Browse the Image & change the dimensions as per requirement & use transparency tab & chose full image for convenient sketching & name the views.

Step 3: Repeat the above steps & name it as Front view, side view, Top view, Back view.

Step 4: change the names of the planes as front plane, bottom plane & mid plane & Arrange the blue prints in a sequential order.

Stage 2:

Modelling of Hull Part.

Steps involved in Modelling of Hull part:

Key Commands: Surface Extrude, Curve Projection, Surface trim, Surface Knit, Shell, Fillet, Swept, Delete face, Cut Extrude, Split option.

Step 1: Open the blue print set up part & save it as Hull part

Step 2: Use sketch tools such as splines, lines & create projection curves.

Step 3: use surface loft & surface trim command to create surface bodies of the hull.

Step 4: Use surface knit command & try to form a solid & shell the Hull body.

Step 5: Create a Deck surface & tail of the hull using extrude feature & apply fillet where ever applicable

Step 6: Create windows using extrude cut feature to create aesthetic appearance.

Step 7: Create a Door steps & small components as per the blue print & apply fillets where ever applicable.

Step 8: After Creating the windows, & small components save the part & go for creating a railings & supports of the hull body

Step 9: Create planes where ever required & draw sketches in such a way to match the curves in the blue Print.

Step 10: Create railings at the door steps & at the supports of the hull

Step 11: Draw Sketches and apply dimensions to match the blue print & apply projection curve command to create complex curve & apply the boss/ sweep command to create a railing support.

Step 12: Delete the extra part of the railing using Delete & fill option.

Step 13: Create a propeller shaft sketch & use revolve command & Stabilizer.

Step 14: Apply Extrude cut.

Step 15: Create a space for garage using extrude cut command.

Step 16: Create a spilt line at the hull.

Step 17: Mirror the created components.

Step 18: Change the color of the hull using Appearances option.

Step 19: Save the part as Hull.

Stage-3

Step 1: Open the Blue print setup part & save it as Super structure

Step 2: Go to Insert-part option & untick all the options except the surface bodies option

Step 3: Create a sketch on the deck surface & extrude it, as per dimensions required, apply swept surface & ruled surface features to bring the surface to match the curves of blue print.

Step 4: Create the two projection curves using sketch tools.

Step 5: Join them using create 3d sketch option & use surface loft, Surface fill to form the surface bodies.

Step 6: Use above mentioned commands frequently to create a surface bodies and apply the surface knit command to form the solid body

Step 7: use 3d sketches, reference geometry options to create a wipers & extrude cut option to create wind shields

Step 8: After creating surface bodies as per blue prints use surface knit option to form the solid body.

Step 9: Draw a Sketch for creating doors & door handles & apply Fillet where ever applicable.

Step 10: Draw a sketch for railings to create supports as per blue prints.

Step 11: Apply fillets with different values where ever applicable

Step 12: Use Split option & create a surface offset.

Note: The surface Offset is used as reference for modelling of radar mast.

Step 13: draw a sketch for creating the windows.

Step 14: After creating the windows, use Appearance option for applying various colors to the various parts.

Step 15: Save the part as super Structure.

Stage-4

Modelling of Radar Mast.

Key Features: Splines, Extrude, Fillet, Revolve, Mirror

Step 1: Open the Blue print set up file & save it as Radar mast.

Step 2: Go to insert- part – browse for super structure & deselect all the options except surface bodies.

Step 3: Use the blue Print & draw the sketch & extrude the part as per the dimensions

Step 4: Create Antenna Using circle & extrude commands

Step 5: Draw the other components & mirror them using mid plane as reference.

Step 6: Apply Colors to the parts using Appearance option.

Step 7: Save the part as radar Mast.

Modelling of Front Seat:

Key Features: Surface extrude, Surface trim, Surface Knit, Chamfer

Step 1: Open the Blue print set up file & save it as Front seat.

Step 2: Using Splines create a sketch & extrude it

Step 3: Use surface trim option to create a shape & surface loft to form the symmetric shape of the Front seat.

Step 4: Use Surface knit option to cover the gaps

Step 5: Hide the Surface deck & use the Surface fill option to fill the gaps & use surface knit option again to form the Solid.

Step 6: Use revolve command to create the shape of the seats.

Step 7: Use extrude cut option to create the seats.

Step 8: Apply fillets where ever applicable.

Step 9: Mirror the components & Apply fillets again

Step 10: Using Appearances Option chose the colors where ever required & save the file.

Middle Seat:

Key Features: Boss extrude, Chamfer, Fillet, Mirror, extrude cut

Step 1: Open the blue Print & save as Middle seat

Step 2: using deck surface as reference draw the rectangles & match them with the blue print & extrude them.

Step 3: Apply fillets, & chamfer as per dimensions & mirror them.

Step 4: Create a sketch for table & extrude The sketch

Step 5: Use extrude cut & apply fillet to the table.

Step 6: Apply colors to the bodies using appearances option & save the file as middle seat

Rear Seat

Key commands: Splines, Surface sweep, Surface offset, surface trim, surface extend, surface loft, surface knit, surface fill, cut extrude
