Assembly of Yacht

  1. MODELLING OF SUNSEEKER PREDATOR YACHT
  1. Objective- The main objective of the Project is to design & assemble the Sunseeker Predator Yacht using SOLIDWORKS and finally perform rendering & create photo-realistic views using SOLIDWORKS Photoview 360 and SOLIDWORKS Visualize.
  1. Introduction- The designing of the Yacht is done with the help of 3D CAD software SOLIDWORKS by Dassault Systems. In designing the Yacht, we have used two 3D modelling methods i.e. Surface Modelling & Solid Modelling. The Parts modelled for Yacht are:
  1. Propeller
  2. Radar
  3. Hull
  4. Garage door
  5. Front Seat
  6. Middle Seat
  7. Rear Seat
  8. Superstructure
  9. Radar Mast
  1. Design methodology-

  1. Description of Tools/ Features used in designing of Sunseeker Predator Yacht-
  1. Surface Modelling-

Surface Extrude: A feature that adds surface from a path.

Revolved Surface: A feature that creates surface by revolving one or more sketched profiles around a centreline.

Surface Loft: It helps to generate complex surface by transitions between profiles.

Surface knit: It is used to reduce the gap/ knit the two surfaces.

Swept surface: It creates a surface by moving a profile (section) along a path.

Swept cut: It creates a cut by moving a profile (section) along a path.

Ruled Surface: It’s a tangent to the surfaces that share an edge.

Offset surface: It creates a gap between the surface selected & new one.

Fill surface: It fills the gap between the surfaces.

2. Solid Modelling-

Boss extrude: A feature that adds material from a part.

Cut extrude: A feature that removes material from a part.

Revolved boss: A feature that creates boss by revolving one or more sketched profiles around a centreline.

Revolve cut: A feature that creates a revolved cut by revolving one or more sketched profiles around a centreline.

Fillet: An internal rounding of a corner or edge in a sketch, or an edge on a surface or solid

Chamfer: Bevels a selected edge or vertex. It can apply chamfers to both sketches and features.

Dome: Select one or more planar or non- planar faces. For creating a semi- hemispherical shape.

3-point Arc: A curve line drawn with the help of 3 points.

Shell: A feature that hollows out a part, leaving open the selected faces and thin walls on the remaining faces. A hollow part is created when no faces are selected to be open.

Linear pattern: The linear parent bodies are used to create different number of instances required to create the pattern linearly.

Tools/ Features used in both Surface & Solid Modelling-

Pierce relation: Makes a sketch point coincident to the location at which an axis, edge, line, or spline pierces the sketch plane.

Projected curve: It is a 3D curve which is projected using two different 2D sketches.

Composite curve: It is a combination of two projected curves.

Extend: It is used to add or perform extension of lines/ arcs.

Mirror: A mirror feature is a copy of a selected feature, mirrored about a plane or planar face. (2) A mirror sketch entity is a copy of a selected sketch entity that is mirrored about a centreline. If the original feature or sketch is modified, the mirrored copy is updated to reflect the change.

Trim: It is used to omit the unwanted edges, generally lines/ arcs.

Reference geometry: Includes planes, axes, coordinate systems, and 3D curves. Reference geometry is used to assist in creating features such as lofts, sweeps, drafts, chamfers, and patterns.

Spline:It is used to create complex curves that have a continuously changed curvature.

Offset Entity:One or more sketch entities, selected model edges, or model faces by specified distance.

Appearances:An appearance defines the visual properties of model including colour & texture

Description of Parts and Features of Sunseeker Predator Yacht-

1.Propeller: A propeller is a device with a rotating hub and radiating blades which transforms rotational power into linear thrust by acting upon a working fluid, such as water or air.

Features used: Revolved Boss, Lofted Boss, Fillet, Extruded cut, Circular pattern.

2. Radar: Radar is device mounted on Radar Mast and it works by sending out a radio signal.

Features used: Extruded Boss, Fillet, Extruded cut, Circular pattern, Mirror.

3. Hull- A hull is the watertight body of a Yacht. The hull may open at the top or it may be fully or partially covered with a deck.

Features used- Surface Loft, Projected curves, Surface Trim, Surface Knit, Surface Fill, Shell, Extruded Boss, Fillet, Extruded Cut, Chamfer, Sweep & Mirror.

4. Garage door: A door used for the Parking of Cars in Garage of a Yacht.

Features used: Extruded Cut, Shell, Fillet & Mirror

5. Front seat: A front seat is used for seating comfortably besides a pool and is located in front of Superstructure.

Features used: Surface sweep, Surface extrude, Revolve, Surface Loft, Surface Trim, Surface Knit, Fillet, Extruded Cut, Chamfer & Mirror.

6.Middle seat: A front seat is located in back of Superstructure.

Features used: Extruded Boss, Extruded Cut, Chamfer & Mirror

7. Rear seat: A front seat is also located back of Superstructure adjacent to Middle seat.

Features used: Surface sweep, Surface offset Surface extrude, Revolve, Surface Loft, Surface Trim, Surface Knit, Fillet & Mirror

8. Superstructure: A superstructure is an extended construction that rises above the deck of a Yacht excluding Radar Mast.

Features used: Surface Extrude, Surface sweep, Surface extrude, Ruled surface, Surface Loft, Surface Trim, Surface Fill, Surface Knit, Surface Extend, Fillet, Extruded Boss, Extruded Cut, Dome, Chamfer & Mirror.

9. Radar Mast: Radar mast is navigation device used to detect objects and their position relative to your current location. It works by sending out a radio signal.

Features used: Extruded Boss, Revolve, Fillet, Sweep, Chamfer & Shell.

  1. Assembly of Sunseeker Predator Yacht:

Assembly:

A document in which parts & features are mated together.

For example, in an Yacht assembly, a propeller is mated to rotating Hub. The extension for a Solidworks assembly file name is .SLDASM.

Mate:

A geometric relationship, such as coincident, perpendicular, tangent, and so on, between parts in an assembly.

Various views of our Yacht assembly-

  1. Front View

2. Side View

3. Isometric View

4. Top View

  1. Photo- realistic Rendering images:

Rendering helps to create photo-realistic images of SolidWorks models. The rendered image incorporates the appearances, lighting, scene, and decals included with the model.

In this project, we have used below mentioned products of SOLIDWORKS to create photo-realistic images-

  1. PhotoView 360
  2. SOLIDWORKS Visualize

Rendering images of an Assembly-

  1. Conclusion:
  • Hence, we have performed the Designing of Sunseeker Predator Yacht using 3D modelling methods of SOLIDWORKS.
  • Assembly of all the individual parts are done by mating them together in SOLIDWORKS.
  • Finally, photo- realistic images are rendered using Photoview 360 & SOLIDWORKS Visualize.
