Project

Analysis of buckling phenomena

Aim:
To perform a buckling analysis on a cyclone separator stand by creating a metallic stiffener on the legs of the stand and run the analysis to nd out the change in buckling factor of safety

Objective :

  • To perform a buckling analysis on a cyclonic separator stand
  • To create a metallic stiffener on the legs of the stand and run the analysis to find out the change in buckling factor of safety.
  • To run a design study and nd the optimum position for the stiffener.
  • To compare the results for all the cases using tables and highlight the best one

Case 1

Steps:

  1. Insert the 3D model of cyclonic separator stand.
  2. Select the simulation option to do (FEA) and select New study and chosse is Buckling Analysis.
  3. And select the parts of cyclonic separator and suppers it.
  4. now create new bucking study
  5. Apply the material as Alloy Steel.
  6. In this we are not adding metallic stiffener on the legs of the stand.
  7. Fix the all legs of stand as shown below.
  8. Apply the load of 150 KN on the top of the stand.
  9. Create a mesh for the stand.
  10. Run the analysis

Model

, geometry constrains and loads meshing

Results

Buckling Factor of Safety is 9.4031

Case 2

  1. Adding Metallic Stiffener on the legs of the stand.
  2. After suppre, add the metallic Stiffener at the length of 1m.
  3. Apply the material as Alloy Steel.
  4. Adding metallic stiffener on the legs of the stand.
  5. Fix the all legs of stand as shown below..
  6. Apply the load of 150 KN on the top of the stand.
  7. Create a mesh for the stand.
  8. Run the analysis

Cyclone seperator stands with stiffner

constrains and loads applied

Results

Buckling Factor of Safety is 27.933

Now , create a design study

In this we are running Design study to determing optimum position for the stiffener.
Here we are going to vary the position of the stiffener and adding the variable and select the dimension to vary and deng the range between position of the
stiffener.
Constrain the design study and add Sensor type as Simulation data and then Data quanity as Buckling Factor of safety and value is set to be a greater then
(max).
Goal of design optimization is to maximize the Buckling Factor of safety

Results

Conclution
The Buckling Factor of safety without stiffener is 9.4031 .and The Optimum Buckling Factor of safety without stiffener is 27.933 at 1m from the table top.

Using design study scenario 4 has maximum Buckling Factor of safety shown in graph comparing to other scenarios
