MBD Simulation on a Piston Assembly
Aim: To model parts of piston assembly and simulate the piston assembly in three condition.
Objective:
- To model parts and assemble the Piston Assembly.
- To perform motion analysis at different wrist pin offset values.
- To analyse the resulting plots.
Steps :
- create 3d model and assemble them .
- to perform motion analysis select the solidwoks motion .
- apply motor on the axis of crank of 2000 rpm
- apply contact beween all the parts
- crate the plot for all three condition of pistion assembly.
- plot the graph and export the graph in excel sheet and create super impose graph of three condition
3d model parts
connecting rod crank
piston head pin
connnecting rod end cap
piston assembly
motion analysis
case 1 = "0" mm Offset
plot 1 displacement of piston head vs time
case 2 = 10 mm Positive Offset - crank rotation is in the Clockwise direction.
plot 2 displacement of piston head vs time
case 3 = 10 mm Negative Offset - crank rotation is in the Clockwise direction.
plot 3 displacement of piston head vs time
Super imposed graph
Conclusion:
thus we created the model ans done thwe motion analysis .The Motion Analysis of the Piston Assembly helps us to assess the working of a Slider-Crank Mechanism. Providing Offset offers much less resistance leading to more engine speed and power. It also helps to relieve the stress induced in case the Piston reaches the Top Dead Centre (TDC) and the Bottom Dead Centre (BDC).With offset, the stroke of piston is reduced. This can be used to slightly alter the piston kinematics in an engine. The horizontal lag has no significance since the time period is still the same.Offsetting might prevent the mechanism from locking in a toggle position since the force on connecting rod will never be in line with it. This can make the engine self-starting.
