Challenge

Analysis & Design of RCC shear walls in the model using ETABS

Step-01

  • After Downloading the challenge open it in Etabs
  • we have run the analysis very first

Step-02

  • From the display option , select show tables
  • After selecting show tables, go to analysis output
  • then select modal participating mass ratios and click on the ok button
  • This table of modal mass ratio will be visible

Step-03

  • Next we need to open the select plan view tab and select base floor

  • Now we will open the reaction tab from the tool box
  • we will select the earthquake load towards X direction

  • We will get the base shear reactions
  • when we divide the base shear taken by the shear wall by the total base shear of the building, then we will get the total percentage of shear forces taken up by the shear wall
  • if we get that less than 80% then we require more shear walls

Step-04

  • Now we need to calculate the base reactions
  • Calculation of base shear is a very important part as base shear is an eastimate of the maximum excepted lateral force on the base of the structure due to seisimic forces
  • So to calculate that again go to display
  • Select show tables
  • Select structure analysis, then structure output
  • select base reactions

  • Base shear at EQX and EQY is marked

Step-05

  • Now we open the elevation view and select 11

  • Now we select Start/checking design option

Step-06

  • Next we select display info
  • now display for pier reinforcement rebars

  • Next we check for pier shear reinforcement

  • Next we look for pier edge/ boundary zones

Step-07

  • Now right click on the shear wall, the design shear details will occur

# Check:

Height of overall wall=2100

Length of wall=1500

H/L=2100/1500

=7/5=1.4<2

Thus ok
