Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_5_Odd Shaped Enclosure

ODD SHAPED ENCLOSURE

Objective:

To design odd shape enclosure by using sheet metal commands and flat pattern the model using NX cad.

Introduction:

Generally sheetmetal thickness range varies from 0.4mm to 6mm then it is called has sheetmetal,The sheet metal

modelling is used for designing the models like the battery cases, casing for the radiators and also for creating the models that have rectangular or the square shape or the L brackets etc these kind of objects are more convinent for designing the objects.

If the thickness is less than 0.4mm then it is called has foil.

If the thickness is more tham 6mm then it is called has plate.

In this design first the solid object is created with the requried dimensions and later the sheetmetal wrap is created around the object and the requried bends are given and the holes are given has per the dimensions.

Design Methodology

Tools And Features:

Extrude:

create an extrude for creating a solid body. this solid body can be created by sketching on the plane.

Sheetmetal From Solid body:

by using Sheetmetal from Solidbody what it will do it is converting a sheet metal from solid body for that we have to select the intended faces, edges and give a thickness values. then press apply to convert.

Flange

Add a flange on the appropriate edge the length of flane is given 20mm

JOG:

On the other side apply a jog. what a jog do it is lifting a material, the profile was created by the sketch on the lifting faces.

Unbend:

Do a unbend it will unbend our sheet metal.

Bead:

bead is added on the sheet metal part to increase a stiffness of the sheet metal. bead can be created by sketching a line.

HOLES:

HOLES has been created with uniform diameter of cut profile.

REBEND:

Then do a rebend to back to it's formed shape

FLAT PATTERN:

Create a flat pattern for drafting purposes ensure that you have enble all the important details so those are reflect on your drafting.

Conclusion:

  • Hence the required Sheet metal Part is created from a solid body.
  • Features like Flange, Jog, bead and General hole is added to the part
  • Finally the flat pattern of the Sheet metal part created is also generated.
