Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_2_Box Assembly

week-2 challenge:

Box assembly

Advanced sheet metal design of box assembly using a nx cad:

box assembly:

OBJECTIVE:

to create a sheet metal product using a NX cad.

by using a tab, bead, mirror body, project curves, hem, bend corner, flange, bend and normal cutout commands are used to create a product.

INTRODUCTION:

sheet metal:

sheet metal is the metal part which has the thickness less than the .25inch(6mm).

this materials commonly used was stainless steel, aluminium, copper and mild steel etc.

appilcation of sheet metal in household components, electrical components and more.

NX Cad:

siemen Nx Cad is the software used to create a part model, drafting and sheet metal products.

it is also called as "unigraphics" initially.

it is the most commonly used industrial software.

Design Methodology:

Description:

command used:

Tab:

first, the tab is created with a dimension of 200x150mm dimension with the thickness of 1mm.

for this click on Tab icon. in select sketch, draw the sketch and finish it.

then provide the tab thickness as 1mm.

here, the tab is created.

then create a flange of 200mm for the 200mm side with material inside on both sides.

now, create a flange on the edge of the flange with 70mm length of bend radius with 10mm on both side.

create a corner with closed corner to obtain a closed in the bottom on both side.

create a flange with bend radius 0mm and length as 0.02mmon both side as shown.

from the previous flange create another flange with 6mm length and 0.5mm bend radius with material outside.

now create a open hem with radius of 0.5mm.lenth of 5mm on both side with opposite direction.

using mirror body command, miiror the body.

then unite with unite command.

after this create a sketch and project the curves and a flange on the outer boundary of the box.

create a sketch on the surface of the flange and draw the required shape.

dimple the sketch with 2mm.

then mirror the feature on the opposite side.

now, on bottom side create a sketch and using dimple command create a pit with 2mm depth.

check whether it is unbend and rebend it

then create a 15mm circle and bead it. then miiror it to get the bead on four sides.

top portion:

for creating a top portion crate a plane with 202mm from the bottom.

by using the plane project the curves and join the curves using a line.

using project currve command, the lines are projected and joined.

then tab the sketch with 1mm.

now, create a flange with 3mm.

connecting portion:

crate a sketch on the side of the flange as shown below.

tab the sketch with 1mm.

create a flange with 4mm with angle of 40degree with bend radius 1mm.

again create a same flange as above.

break corner of the tab to a curvy shape.

using a hem command, with open loop of 5mm radius and angle of 325 degree.

now, unbend it.

create a sketch as shown below.

using normal cutout, cut the shape to obtain a shape and rebend it.

mirror the body.

on top create a sketch with requirred dimension and tab it with 1mm.

create a flange with required dimension and angle to obtain a shape.

create a hem with open loop, 5mm bend radius with angle 325.

break corner with radius 10mm.

unbend it.

create a sketch as shown below.

using normal cutout cut the shpae.

now rebend it to get a box assembly.

color the feature using a color feature command.

conclusion:

A detailed report on Sheet Metal Component with good explanation on Sheet Metal modelling tools applied throughout the modelling of box assembly is done.
