Design of Sheet Metal Box Assembly

Box Assembly - NX CAD

Objective: Designing a Sheet Metal Box Assembly using Siemens NX Sheet metal application.

Introduction: Sheet metal components are the parts formed by punching, stamping, cutting and bending. In this project we are going to understand the design procedure for Sheet metal Box Assembly using NX CAD. In this project we would get introduced to the Sheet metal application of the Siemens NX CAD software.

Design Methodology:

Features and Tools Used:

  1. Direct Sketch: We use its tools to create a base sketch. (for eg: Rectangle, Circle, Line, etc.)
  2. Basic Group: We extrude the base sketch using the TAB feature from the toolbar.
  3. Bend: We provide flanges to the extruded tab using the FLANGE feature, from this toolbar. We have also used HEM FLANGE command which allows us to fold the edges for stiffness.
  4. Unite Feature: The feature is used to combine two bodies to form a single part.
  5. Corner: After creating the flanges we eliminate the corners using the CLOSED CORNER feature in order to ease the manufacturing process.
  6. We provide the necessary slot / feature using the DIMPLE command and BEAD command.
  7. Cutout: Using the NORMAL CUTOUT tool we remove the material from the required location
  8. Flat Pattern: We use this feature to create a flattened view of our sheet metal component.

Conclusion:

We have successfully understood the basic tools of Siemens NX Sheet Metal Application and the procedure to design the Sheet metal Box Assembly.
