Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_1_Casing Design

Casing Design

Objective:

To design a sheet metal casing using NX and detail the casing dimensions in drafting.

Introduction:

Casing is an outer cover of an object using metals or sheet metals depends on its use.

Design Methodology:

Description:

To design the casing of a sheet metal using we need few tools to design as per the input. Those tools are discussed in detail below.

  1. Tab:

Tab is used to create base of the sheet metal of 1mm thickness. Using proper dimensions provided in the input like length and width, tab can be created.

  1. Normal cut-out:

Normal cut-out is used to remove materials at the edge of the sheet. Using dimensions from the input normal cut-out is made up to sheet thickness.

  1. Bend:

Bend is used to make the base of the sheet metal to bend up to particular distance and for the desired angle. To create bend we need to create a bend axis using sketch tool of the desired distance.

  1. Flange:

Flange is used to create a flange for particular distance by providing proper angle, length and bend radius.

  1. Break Corner:

Sharp corners can be removed using break corner tool.

  1. Unbend:

Unbend tool is used to undo the bending process by making it flat to create holes and stamping process.

  1. Hole:

Hole tool is used to create normal holes or standard holes using sketch point as location and face normal for the hole. By using hole tool standard hole of M2 is created on the datum sketch point locations.

  1. Dimple:

Dimple tool is used to create a stamp on the sheet metal up to defined depth by sketching the dimple.

  1. Bead:

Bead tool is used to create circular stamp on the sheet metal up to defined depth by sketching the circle of particular diameter and its dimension from reference or datum.

  1. Rebend:

Rebend tool is used to create the bend of the unbend sheet metal.

  1. Flat pattern:

Flat pattern is used to create sheet metal of unbend to create bend axis and details of bending.

  1. Drafting:

Drafting is detailing the model to understand the non-engineering people to understand the model clearly for manufacturing.

Conclusion:

Casing model has been designed and drafting also made for clear understanding of the casing for its manufacturing purpose.
