Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_1_Casing Design

OBJECTIVE : To design the sheet metal casing using NX CAD and also gain knowledge how to utilise different sheet metal design features required for making the sheet metal components based on industrial purpose.

INTRODUCTION : Sheet Metal Fabrication is the process of forming parts from a metal sheet by punching, cutting, stamping, and bending. 3D CAD files are converted into machine code, which controls a machine to precisely cut and form the sheets into the final part. Casing is a one of the Sheetmetal component used to cover or protects the parts with in it. ... It can be designed by using NX-cad sheet metal. NX, formerly known as "Unigraphics".

DESIGN METHODOLOGY :

DESCRIPTION :

features used :

Sketch : Sketch creates a 2D drawing for the model of having several sketch commands like lines, rectangles, circles, etc.

Tab : Tab creates a Base Extrude feature for the given Sketch with thickness and direction.

Bend : Bend is used to bend the created Base Extrude in required direction and angle.

Flange : Flange creates an aditional body by given angel from the edge of existing sheet metal body.

Break corner : Break corner creates smooth rounded edges for the sheet metal.

Unbend : Unbend is used to bend model into original state .

Hole : Hole is used to create different types of holes on the sheet metal model.

Dimple : Dimple lifts the area of the model inside the sketch for creating stamping press to the model.

Bead : Bead lifts the material along the contour of sketch that simulates a stamping tool.

Mirror : Mirror creates a copy of bodies or features along the plane direction.

Flat pattern : This feature is used to create a flat pattern from the formed sheet metal part.

MODELLED SHEET METAL CASING :

DETAILED DRAWING SHEET :

CONCLUSION : Hence, The Sheet Metal Casing is modelled by using NX CAD.
