Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_1_Casing Design
Title of the project:
CASING DESIGN
Objective
Siemens NX formerly known as Unigraphics was used to design the casing.
Introduction
Sheet metal forming is the process in which a flat sheet is converted to desired shape by (bending, cutout, embossing, etc.) without causing any rupture to the sheet metal.
Sheet metal thickness varies from 0.4mm to 6mm, thin sheet metal is called leaf or foil and thicker ones are called as plate.
few examples of the industries which are reliant on sheet metal are aerospace, automobile, oil and gas, electronics, food service etc.
Design methodology

Description
Tab- it is used create the base
Normal cutout- to create a cut in desired position
Bend-to bend the sheet metal at the desired position
Flange-feature consisting of a face and bend connected to the existing face along straight edge
Unbend/ Re bend- done to ease the next operation
Hole-operation to create a hole in the sheet metal
Break corners- done to remove the sharp edges
Bead-it is created by punching in the sheet metal which adds stiffness to the sheet metal.
Dimple-it is a fuctional requirement and can also add stiffness to the sheet metal
Flat pattern-it provides the information of all the features.
Drafting- it is last step done to communicate the details of the model.
