Underbody Coating of a car E-DIP
UNDERBODY COATING
It is basically a coating process where the car is sent inside a E-Dip bath to make it corrosive resistance and also to make sure that BIW model will soak paint easily.
The process is started with the E-Dip bath where the BIW(Body in white) model of the car is dipped inside a corrosive resistant liquid. The angle of inclination and the time period for whoch the car will remain submerged in the E-Dip liquid depends on the weight and facility available with the OEM (Original Equipment Maker). During the period of subersion the BIW model is constantly given a linear motion along with a rotatory motion. The linear motion keeps the assembly line in chain while the rotatory motion makes sure that there is no acumulation of E-Dip material inside the body of the car , as that may lead to problems while painting and bad surface finish. After the E-dip process is completed the BIW model is lifted with the same angle of inclination as before which removes the extra material.
After this proces BIW now is taken through a heating process where the heater drys up the E-Dip material and then sometimes the car is taken through the primer area where again the BIW is submerged in primer and rotated so that the primer set in properly. The angle of inclination again depends upon the weight and the facility available with the OEM.
AFter this the BIW is tranferred to an area of bright light where further inspection are carried out upon the quality of the primer process. Beyond this the car is taken to the Paint Shop where the actual colour of the car is painter upon its body. Usually the paint process consists of fully automatic and semi automatic stages. Luxury car brands are provided with fully automatic paint shops but local brands often do have semi automatic paint shops based upon the value of the car.
Last but not least the sealent is applied under the body of the car. This process too have fully autotmatic stages in luxurious brands, along with sealant applied on the fits and welds too. Semi luxurious car makers dont use that many amount of sealant under their car bodies which again depends on the market value of the car.
In short the above mentioned stages completes the process of underbody coating of a car.
