Problem set 1-week 2 challenge

1. Improper tie-rod length and tie-rod mis-alignment are the two tie-rod errors with respect to ride steer. The former causes a toe-out in jounce and rebound, the latter causes toe-in on jounce and toe-out on rebound.

2. It is an Oversteer effect.

3. Yes there would be compliance and it comes from the metal parts directly. The parts bend to provide compliance.

4. We will get a Under-Steer effect.

5. Due to the KPI inclination the outer wheel always gain positive camber when a lateral force is applied.

6.

7. The rear ride frequency has to be greater than the front ride frequency because bounce motion of the chassy is acceptable by passengers but pitching motion causes motion sickness. The pitcing motion is caused because the front and rear wheels hit the bump with a time gap between then and th chassy starts to pitch front and back.

8. For low frequency, we need low damping and if high damping is used then the shocks may enter chassy easily which is uncomfortable for the passengers. For high frequency we need high damping in order to absobs the shocks quickly. We need to choose a intermediate damping coefficient inorder to react properly to both low and high frequency. During Jounce the spring goes under-compression and we need low damping. During Rebound we need to control the energy release, thus we need high damping during rebound travel.

9. There will be a 55% reduction in the total load transfer.
