Vehicle Dynamics Problem Set 1- Week 1

1. The solid axle or rigid axle suspension systems have 4 degree of restraints allowing only vertical and roll movements.

2. We need negative camber during jounce because the vehicle will roll during jounce, thus the negative camber can compensate for the roll. The tire can have a maximum area of contact with the road.

3. If the Roll center was at the CG height the car will not get thhe necessary roll that it should get during a turn. If the roll center is below the CG or ground, more steering effort will be needed to turn the vehicle.

4. The camber control is poor in McPherson strut and during jounce it induces a negative camber gain.

5. By moving the pitch center backward we can reduce the extension of the rear spring during braking.

6. The wheel center rate is how much the wheel is moving up for a given force and the spring rate is how much the spring is undergoing compression during the application of the same force.

7. For reverse ackerman the outer wheel steers more than the inner wheel.
