Hood panel design

The Hood is an front opening panel which covers the engine compartment of vehicle. The hood comprises of outer panel and inner panel. The outer panel shape is defined by styling team. The inner panel is designed from outer panel offset with technical consideration.

Design considerations

  • Outer panel thickness- 0.75mm
  • Inner Panel thickness- 0.75 mm
  • Joining Method - Hemming process & application of mastic sealant
  • Hinge Assy- providing Embossing and positioning of Hinge parts
  • Striker Assy- Providing Embossing and Striker positioning(The trajectory Drawn from the centre of line passing through LH & RH hinge must be perpendicular to striker.

The embosses were provided in the hood in such a way to dissipate the impact force drastically outside the panel

Embosses were given to reduce weight and increase strength of the inner
panel thus the inner panel could withstand the impact force

\"\"

  • The Hinge mounting position is fixed, that an axis line pass through both LH and RH hinge joint point.
  • Embossing is provided for hinge Reinforcement.

\"\"

\"\"

  • The striker position is fixed , that a trajectory of striker with center point on hinge joint axis makes perpendicularity to striker rod.
  • Embossing is provided for striker Reinforcement.

  • Hemming operation- It is one of the panel joining processes, that the outer panel flange run over the inner panel covering its edges for 6 mm,
  • This method Holds the outer and inner panel together along with mastic point support.
  • End relief has been provided on the corners to avoid sheet metal layer concentration on corners
