Hood design-Week 2

Title : Hood design.

Objective :

  • Design Outer Panel with the Hem
  • Develop the Inner Panel
  • Develop all the Necessary Reinforcements
  • Mirror and position the Hinge & Striker
  • Provide Mastic Data
  • Provide the required Emboss definition
  • Develop a detailed Report for the Mastic position and Embosses you have placed

Methodology:

Hood consist of mainly inner panel and outer panel joint using Hemming process.

Steps:

we have given Master section of inner panel

Follow the master section to design inner panel.

Hood Thickness Information

  • Outer Panel Thickness = 0.75mm
  • Inner Panel Thickness = 0.75mm
  • Reinforcement Thickness = 1.5mm

we have to use following commands to create inner panel

  1. offset surface
  2. offset curve in face
  3. trim sheet
  4. Through curves
  5. law of extraction
  6. trim and extend
  7. face blend

by using this we can create inner panel a per Master section.

Now we have to perform Emboss

For that Draw curves as follows using offset curves in faces

Then use emboss command

Select the face and curves to be emboss

Once this is done use mirror command to create another half part of inner panel

Then make Reinforcement for Latch

In this way we have created inner hood panel.

Then sew thge 2 parts of inner panel in order to get error free geometry.

Then apply thickness to inner panel using Thicken command

Now we have to create outer using following commands

  1. offset surface
  2. offset curve in face
  3. Law of extension
  4. Trim sheet.
  5. mirror
  6. sew

Then apply thickness to outer panel as 0.75mm

In this way we have creatwd outer surface

NOW, lets move towards Hemming process.

Hemming is the process in which the edge is rolled flush to itself, while a seam joins the edges of two materials.

Relief :

Relief helps to control sheet metal material behavior and to prevent unwanted deformation during unbend operations.

Use trim sheet

Then we have to attached Latch and hinge to Hood.

Go to assembly Tab, import the part using add part

Then apply constrain and put latch and Hinge at its reinforcement location.

Conclusion : Thus in this way we have designed car hood using all above steps.
