Desgin and Assembly of Yacht
DESIGNING OF SUNSEEKER PREDATOR YACHT
OBJECTIVE:
This project involves a process of design & assembly of yacht model. A yacht is a sail used for pleasure, cruising, or racing. It has a cabin with amenities that accommodate overnight use.
For designing the yacht, we need to create it parts and need to be assembled properly.
Parts of yacht are listed below:
- Propeller
- Radar
- Hull
- Garage Door
- Front Seat
- Middle Seat
- Rear Seat
- Superstructure
- Radar-mast
For designing these parts, below commands will be used. Before seeing the features used for the individual parts, let’s get to know the usage of tools.
Fillet:
It is a feature to create the rounded edges.
Loft:
The loft feature in SOLIDWORKS allows you generate complex geometry in a single feature. It does this by interpolating surfaces between various cross-sections of a model. These cross-sections can be sketches, faces, or edges.
Dome:
This feature helps to create a round or elliptical contour to the respective faces.
Extrude Cut:
This feature helps to remove the unwanted material from the body.
Split:
It simply breaks the target surface into multiple bodies. It works in both solid and surface.
Trim Entities:
This feature helps to remove the line in sketch as per the requirement.
Revolve:
It is a feature used to revolve the sketch based on the axis given as centre, in-order to get a solid body.
Shell:
The shell tool hollows out a part, leaves open the faces you select, and create thin-walled features on the remaining faces.
Mirror:
This feature helps to create the exact replica of feature, faces or bodies on user defined plane or face.
Chamfer:
This tool creates a bevelled feature on selected edges, faces, or a vertex.
Sketch-Driven Pattern:
Using sketch points within a sketch, you can specify a feature pattern.
Linear Pattern:
It helps to create multiple instances of one or more features that you can space uniformly along one or two linear paths.
Projected Curve:
This feature project a sketched curve onto a model face to create a 3D curve. It also helps to create a 3D curve that represents the intersection of two extruded surfaces generated by creating sketches on two intersecting planes.
Sweep:
Sweep creates a base, cut, or surface by moving a profile (section) along a path. A sweep can be simple or complex.
Plane:
This feature is reference geometry allows creating a 2D sketch when there is no proper face to sketch.
Convert Entities:
This feature is used to create one or more curves in a sketch by projecting edges, faces, loops, curve or external sketch contour onto the sketch plane.
Sweep surface:
This tool creates a surface by moving a profile (section) along a path.
Loft Surface:
Loft creates a feature by making transitions between profiles. Loft is created using two or more profiles.
Fill Surface:
This feature constructs a surface patch with any number of sides, within a boundary defined by existing model edges, sketches, or curves, including composite curves.
Surface Trim:
This tool uses a surface, plane, or sketch as a trim tool to trim intersecting surfaces. We can also use a surface in conjunction with additional surfaces, as mutual trim tools.
Surface Knit:
This tool uses two or more faces and surfaces into one.
Sweep Cut:
This tool removes a surface or body by moving a profile (section) along a path.
Helix-Spiral:
This tool helps to create a helix or spiral curve in a part.
Surface Extend:
This tool helps to extend a surface by selecting an edge, multiple edges, or a face.
Ruled Surface:
This command creates surfaces that extend out in a specified direction from selected edges.
3D Sketch:
This tool helps to create 3D sketch entities on a working plane, or at any arbitrary point in 3D space.
Delete Face:
This tool helps to delete the selected faces from the feature.
- Propeller
A propeller is a device with a rotating hub and radiating blades that are set at a pitch to form a helical spiral, that when rotated performs an action which is similar to Archimedes' screw. It transforms rotational power into linear thrust by acting upon a working fluid such as water or air.
Commands Used –
- Sketch
- Revolve
- Plane
- Loft
- Fillet
- Extrude cut
- Circular pattern
- Radar
Radar is a detection system that uses radio waves to determine the range, angle, or velocity of objects. It can be used to detect aircraft, ships, spacecraft, guided missiles, motor vehicles, weather formations, and terrain. A radar system consists of a transmitter producing electromagnetic waves in the radio or microwaves domain, a transmitting antenna, a receiving antenna and a receiver and processor to determine properties of the objects.
Commands Used –

- Split Line
- Hull
A hull is the watertight body of a ship or boat. The hull may open at the top (such as a dinghy), or it may be fully or partially covered with a deck. Atop the deck may be a deckhouse and other superstructures, such as a funnel, derrick, or mast. The line where the hull meets the water surface is called the waterline..

ASSEMBLY
In this, we need to assemble the yacht by inserting the parts into assembly workbench.
The parts like Rear seat, Garage door, Propeller and Radar are inserted accordingly and provided the possible mate condition with respective to the position of yacht.
