BACK DOOR DESIGN FOR AUTOMOTIVE VEHICLE

Back door is an important design component used in automotive vehicle. Since, it provides

protection and covering for the back side of the vehicle.

Design characteristics of the back door plays a very important role in terms of safety and

luggage storage capacity of the vehicle.

More thinner the back door design, more will be the luggage area storage, whereas, more

thicker the back door design, less will be the luggage area storage.

But considering the type of vehicle, the are different types and designs of back door.

Some of them are shown below-

1. Compact SUV- Vetical opening

2. Compact SUV- Horizontal opening

3. Sedan

Next important point which comes in to the consideration is the opening and stay of the back

door of the car. Now this stay can be achieved with the help of gas stay, which are basically

the gas springs attached at both the ends. Whereas, in some cases the stay is achieved with

the help of the internal mechanism which consists of rubber grips or simply a rachet type

mechanism.

Further, the back door with the given styling is developed in the NX cad shown below-

The styling provided was-

Further on which the hood inner panel was developed as shown below-

Now, in order to obtain the additional strength the reinforcement Materials are added to the

sheetmetal in the areas where stress are maximum.

There are mainly basic 4 types of reinforced materials used in general hood assembly

manufacturing, they are-

1) Latch reinforced material

2) Hinge reinforced material

3) Gas stay reinforcement

4) Wiper motor reinforcement

Embossing for force distribution and increasing the rigidity-

The embossing process increases a material\'s strength. If we can synthetically increase the

strength of a given metal, that presents new possibilities for material usage and cost

efficiency.
