Course Overview

  • This program is for engineers/students who would like to have their career (or switch) in the field of structural engineering with a specialisation in steel structures.
  • This course covers the fundamentals in steel for practical design and also introduces the software STAAD.Pro to design an industrial structure.
  • The first half of the course deals with the elements in steel structure and their design based on IS code and teaches students how to combine them into a project resulting in designing a fully integrated steel structure.
  • The second half concentrates on the software package STAAD.Pro that is used in industries widely.

Week 01 - Introduction to Industrial Structures

Week 08 - Loading, Analysis and Design Procedure in STAAD.Pro

In this project, A trussed roof structure of 30m span is analyzed and designed including crane load using STAAD.Pro and the complete project report should be created for the same.

Proposed PEB warehouse (Industrial Building) at Coimbatore using STAAD. Pro

In this project, the student is asked to design a PEB for a proposed warehouse using STAAD.Pro along with the complete project report. From the above two projects, students come to know about reading an architectural drawing, calculating loadings, selecting a best suited structural arrangement for the warehouse along with the load combinations.
