Wiring harness design in CATIA V5 - 3D modeling Week 2 Challenge

AIM:

Download following connectors & connector clip cad data from given link & define it as Electrical Connector using Electrical Part design Workbench . Define all the necessary properties to Connector & clip.

Terminologies & Definitions

> Electical Distribution system ( EDS)

. Electrical distribution system basically deas with physical & Logical Architecture , Schematic Development , Power distribution , wiring harness component design of given Electrical system.

> E&E Architeture-

. It is high level connectivity digram represent the number of system , Sub - system and logical connectivity between them. It is also extended to show the CAN network between different Electronic controllers.

> Logical Schematicsa-

. Logical component is detailed design of E&E Architecture which is extended to show the logical connectivity between different components & controls of given system , sub-system.

> Electrical Schematics-

. Electrical schematics is detail design of logical schematics which describes the pin to pin connectivity , properties, Fusing distribution , grounding distribution , Interconnects , Wire properties, Circuit properties, Specification of components etc. This is the end result of Electrical core design of system and used as an primary input for harness development.

> Wiring harness topology-

. Wiring harness Topology is strategy to divide or split the harness between different pieces to achieve the best Manufacturability, Seerviceability & Cost effective design.

> Wiring harness Routing

. Wiring harness rounting deals with desired path of wiring harness into given vehicle environment by applying of design rule & industry best practices.

> Wiring harness packaging

. Wiring harness packaging deals with Fixing / Mounting strategy of wiring harness rounting to ensure the safe , Reliable & Durability of wiring harness by applying set of design rules & industry best pracices.

Wiring harness Assembly Structure - Connector Definition.

Connector Definition

Following Parameters are requireed to defined for any connector-

Geometry parameters- Points & Co-orinate system (Axis)

Connector connection points- This points is used for the connection of one connector to another connector.

Harness bundle entry point - This point defines where the hrness bundle segment point will end when routed to the electrical connector.

Cavity connection point ( Optional) - This point is used to define the connection of a connector to a connector clip . This only applies to connectors which have the mounting feature for a connector clip.

CONNECTOR DEFINATION IN CATIA V5

1. Deutsch DT06 - 08SA

Connector connection point:

Create midpoint on the cotract face which will be normal to wire bunddle insertion.

Craete Axis system with respect to the point which we have created and defining the axis direction as shown below.

Bundle connection point:

Switch to " Electric part Design"

Define the part as connector in catia , give no . of termination as 8 because we have 8 entry ponits for wire.

Define Bundle connection point

Define connector connection point

2.Tyco 174357-2 :

  • Create midpoint
  • create Connector connection point
  • create Connector connection axis system
  • create cavity connection point
  • create cavity connection axis system
  • Switch to Electric part design and define part as connector
  • Define Connector connection point and cavity connection point

3. Tyco 85229-1 :

  • Create midpoint
  • create cavity connection point
  • create cavity connection axis system and orientation should be same as in connector
  • Switch to Electric part design and define part as Mounting Equipment
  • Define cavity connection point

Elctric Assembly Design

  • Import Connector and cavity / mounting clip.
  • Select Defing Eelectric connection
  • select cavity and then connector.
