Week 9 Tension and Torsion test challenge

Week 9 Tension and Torsion test challenge

AIM

To run the Explicit dynamics analysis for Mechanism on a total of 2 different cases with change in load condition terms and provide the inference on the output.

Objective

To find and compare the results of Equivalent stress, directional deformation, Equivalent elastic strain, and contact pressure in all cases.

For this challenge, you will have to perform the tension and torsion test on the specimen provided below the video corresponding to the challenge.

For the tension test, displace one end of the specimen to 18mm while keeping the other fixed. You will need to find out the total deformation, equivalent stress and temperature of the specimen and attach appropriate images to show your results.

For the torsion test, you will need to displace one end of the specimen to an angle of 1200 degree. Find out the total deformation, equivalent stress and temperature of the specimen and attach images to show your results.

Import the model.

select the material.

Steel 1006

From the material librery in Explicit dynamics

create the two new coordinate system from the given rod on both side.

the two new coordinate system will be type of cartesian

Mesh the component with mesh option.

in mesh select the method option as tetrahedral

After that use face sizing

type as sphere of influence

radius = 22mm

element sizing of 3mm

Analysis setting

End time step = 1E-3

fixed support

Displacement

x= 18mm
