Week 9 - Project 1 - Door Trim Lower with Engineering Features

AIM

To create plastic design and attach the engineering feature and generate the draft analysis for the given door appligue class A model.

PROCEDURE

  • Check for any openings in the given model door applique by using boundary. In boundary-select the surface to create the boundary at the openings.
  • Create a point at the center of the surface by using point definition by point type -on surface select the surface and distance.
  • By using the line definition option create a line in Y direction by line type-point direction.
  • Extract the Class A surfaces by selecting the surface to extract and Untrim the surfaces by selecting the surfaces which are required and offset the untrimmed surfaces by selecting the surfaces to offset to a distance of 2.5mm and then trim the surfaces.
  • Extract the Boundary of Class A by Extract option and Using Sweep option create the Class C surface.
  • Smooth curve the extracted boundary and then in Sweep option : Type - With draft direction , Guide Curve - Boundary and Draft direction - Tooling axis and angle as 3 degrees.
  • Create the C surface for 2 boundaries separately.

TOOLING AXIS CREATION

The tooling axis is the direction of drawing a sheed matal where the finished component is easily ejected on a particular direction and axis. The tooling axis is important for removing the material when finished.

First i will creat an axis system from that axis system i will get two cross-section by using that cross-section lines I will create the tooling axis for the surface.

Or if is a flat surface I will create a point using surface a line using the axis system.

DRAFT ANALYSIS

When a plastic component is made we can observe a draft angle given on each side from the base that is lesser than 90 degrees. This is because in the criteria of making a plastic material the mold should release the material when finished. It mold surface are 90 degrees the material won't release from the mold because of frication due to contraction of material when cooled.

To resolve this problem we maintain a standard rule to design the plastic mold or die's in such a way that there is not problem while ejecting the plastic componebts so a minimum of 3-10 degrees of draft angle is given ot every plastic component while designing.
