Week 9 - Project 1 - Door Trim Lower with Engineering Features

Question:

Create the Door Trim Lower Plastic component through the given Class-A surface. To begin with, the tooling axis for the given Class-A Surface should be created meeting the requirements of the draft angle and at the end perform the Draft analysis on the model.

Create the Heat Stakes and the locators considering the design rules mentioned in the video for the door applique.

Solution:

Procedure for designing Door trim:

Fig1.1: Provided Class_A surface.

Fig1.2: Creating bisecting line at mid-point, bisecting line-01 and line-02 which is 'Tooling_axis'.

Fig1.3: Creation of Class_B surface by executing 'Multi section surface' operation for missing surfaces.

Fig1.4: Creating class-C surface by using 'Swept' command and checking them for boundary condition.

Fig1.5: Creating join of surfaces class-A and class-C by using 'Join' command.

Fig1.6: Checking the closed body of 'Door trim' for boundary condition.

Fig1.7: Creation of 'Solid door trim' by using the 'Closed_surface_feature' of the 'Part_workbench'.

Fig1.8: Draft analysis results performed on the 'Solid Door trim'.

Fig1.9: Sketch for Locators.

Fig1.10: Execution of 'Pad' command for Locators.

Followed by Chamfer, Draft and Edgefillet commands.

Same steps are follwed for creating Locator-02.

Finally 'Union trim' operation is performed with main 'Solid door trim'.

Fig1.12: Execution of 'Pad' command for Heat stakes.

Followed by Chamfer, Draft and Edgefillet commands.

'Translation' command from 'Part workbench' is executed by copiying the same 'Heat stake_01' for other positions of the heat stakes.

Finally 'Union trim' operation is performed with main 'Solid door trim' for each body of 'Heat stakes' independently.
