Week 9 - Project 1 - Door Trim Lower with Engineering Features

Objective:

Creating the Door Trim Lower Plastic component through the given Class-A surface. The tooling axis for the given Class-A Surface to be created meeting the requirements of the draft angle and at the end performing the Draft analysis on the model.

Create the Heat Stakes and the locators considering the design rules

Class A surface

Class A surface of the Door handle is given for designing the plastic component

Tooling direction

From the class A surface if we see the component from the y - axis direction all the faces are visible so considered the y - axis as tooling direction.

After defining the main tooling axis draft analysis for a postive draft of 3 deg

Draft analysis

From the draft analysis we can check for the negative draft. As we can see there is no negative draft

Class B surface

Offset the class A surface by thickess which is 2.5 mm and correct the patches formed on the surface. Extropolate the class B surface

Class C surface

Extract the boundary of class A and sweep with referance to the surface at 87 deg for draft with a length more than the thickness of the component. Join class A and sweep

Trim the Class C with class B to get closed surface and used closed surface to get solid body

Heat stake

Sketch is created at the given point for the heat stake and used pad feature on the sketch. Gave ribs for additional support as the heat stake have more length. by using translate heat stake is translated to given points. Draft of 0.5 deg is given for both the heat stake and the supporting ribs assembled into the main body by using union trim feature.

Using the sam method locators also created and seembled on to the main body.

Draft analysis:

The draft analyis is done for the solid body including heat stakes and locators

The plastic component is cleared for 3 deg draft and heat stakes and locator are cleared for 0.5 deg draft. No negative draft is present.

Conclusion:

Created the Door Trim Lower Plastic component through the given Class-A surface. The tooling axis for the given Class-A Surface is created meeting the requirements of the draft angle and at the end performed the Draft analysis on the model.
